Balázs Arató - Art Manager/International Relations - National Dance Theatre / Budapest Dance Festival, Budapest, Hungary After completing his dance education as a ballet dancer at the Hungarian Dance Academy (Budapest,1997), Balázs Arató danced with the Hungarian National Ballet (Hungary) and with the Konzert & Theater St. Gallen (Switzerland). After finishing his dancing career, he started to learn cultural and museum management at the Eotvos Lorand University (2003) and at the Moholy- Nagy University of Art and Design (2012). He has founded his own company and also worked at the Aranytíz Cultural Center as art manager until 2005, when he got invited to work in the management of the National Dance Theatre Budapest. During his time with the National Dance Theatre, he has worked with Shen Wei Dance Arts, Cloud Gate Dance Theatre of Taiwan, Merce Cunningham Dance Company, Cullberg Ballet, Bridgman/Packer Dance, and many others. In 2004, he started a cultural online magazine (www.tancelet.hu) that is focusing on the dance life of Hungary. Balázs Arató speaks fluent English and German.! ! Jarmo Penttila has been advisor for dance programming in National Theatre Chaillot in Paris, France, since September 2011.!!Between 2000-2011, he was responsible for the creations, rehearsals and touring of CCN Centre Chorégraphiques National of Ballet de Lorraine, Nancy, France.!!Before 2000 he was a professional dancer in different contemporary dance companies in France for 20 years. ! ! Anna C Y CHAN - Head, Artistic Development (Dance),! West Kowloon Cultural District Authority, Hong Kong! Anna C Y Chan is a practicing administrator, producer, curator, and arts educator. She is now the head of Artistic Development (Dance) of the West Kowloon Cultural District Authority with the key responsibilities to lead the artistic team to formulate respective visions, missions, artistic direction, strategies, and the mode of governance for performing arts facilities in the District, as well as monitoring and overseeing audience building, outreach, capacity building, and partnership building programs for Dance. She was also the chairperson of the Hong Kong Dance Alliance from 2006 – 2011 and currently serves as Emeritus Chair; Vice-President (East Asia) of the World Dance Alliance Asia Pacific (WDAAP); Dance Advisor of the Hong Kong Arts Development Council. ! A former professional dancer, Anna continues her artistic contribution as producer and has strong interest in supporting innovative work and cross- disciplinary collaboration. Anna was one of the keynote speakers at the Dance Symposium: The Future of Contemporary Dance – Connecting Artistic Exploration and the Market Needs, organized by the Guangdong Modern Dance Company in 2010. In 2011, she was invited by the Koelnmessa Pte Ltd as a speaker at LIVE! Singapore 2011 on the topic of “Arts Infrastructure Development: Audience Development through Community Engagement.” In 2012, she was invited by the Beijing Dance Festival 2012 to speak at the Dance Symposium on the topic of “The Opportunities for Creation and Growth for Young Artists in Asia” and in July 2014 to speak on the topic of “Hong Kong Focus.” Most recently, Anna conducted an investigation on “Art Form Cultural Charter Development (Dance)” and wrote a Dance Plan for Hong Kong. ! ! Shoghakat Mlke-Galstyan - Chief Coordinator, Highfest International Performing Arts Festival, Yerevan, Armenia! ! Shoghakat practiced Latino-American dances since 1993 and contemporary ballet since 1998. In 2012, she graduated from the Arts Management Dept. of the Yerevan State Institute of Theatre and Cinematography (BA & MA). She founded the MIHR Theatre in 2003 and is its soloist. Shoghakat has been the chief coordinator of the HIGH FEST International Performing Arts Festival since 2006. From 2010 - till present, she has been the head of the International Projects of the “Armenian Actors Union” NGO. She is a member of the Independent Armenian Performing Arts Platform, National Artists Union, Armenian Theatre Worker’s Union, and IETM (International Network for the Contemporary Performing Arts). She is a concept developer, coordinator of the Armenian Delegation to the Prague Quadrennials (stage design exhibition - expo) / Prague, Czech Republic, from 2011 till present. As a member of the MIHR, she has worked with various collaboration projects such as a theatrical piece with the artists from Laboratory of Stage Arts (Lithuania), Art & Shock (Kazakstan), Sayeh Theatre (Iran). She has been working as a coordinator for the international festivals and events in France, Georgia, Cyprus, Germany, and Russia. ! Georgina Thomson - Executive Director, Dance Umbrella, Dance Forum, Johannesburg, S. Africa Georgina Thomson trained as a dancer from the age of seven and then proceeded to work in the industry, mostly in Europe for a few years. In 1984, Georgina joined PACOFS (Performing Arts Council Free State) in Bloemfontein as company manager for the Drama Dept. After two years, she moved to Durban to join The Playhouse Company in the Marketing Department where she worked for six years from 1985 to 1991 as a marketing organizer. From 1991 to 1993, Georgina worked at the Wits Performing Arts Administration as the marketing manager before returning to Durban for another year with the Playhouse Dance Company as company manager in 1994. Georgina returned to Johannesburg in 1995 and joined Vita Promotions as a project coordinator. Georgina started working for the Dance Umbrella, initially as an assistant to the program manager and took over as artistic director in 1998. In her time as artistic director, Georgina has taken the event from being a local platform that offered an open and free platform for artists to present work on a series of mixed bill programs, to a curated event that includes new commissioned, full-length works from both local and international choreographers/companies, a young artists programme, and developing dance practitioners in the community sector. Since November 2003, Georgina has been working with her own company, Dance Forum, as the artistic director of the Dance Umbrella and as an arts administrator/project manager and consultant. ! ! ! Tisa Ho – Executive Director, Hong Kong Arts Festival, Hong Kong!! Executive Director of the Hong Kong Arts Festival (HKAF) since 2006, Tisa extended the scale and scope of HKAF programming to include large scale and site-specific works. From 2009, HKAF also produced and published commissioned original works, some subsequently touring outside Hong Kong. HKAF has consistently achieved over 95% attendance presenting about 140 performances of classic as well as contemporary works over five weeks. Her previous work includes policy and infrastructure planning, including brief development for Singapore’s Esplanade; marketing and curatorial responsibilities for the Singapore Arts Festival; and management of the Singapore Symphony Orchestra and Victoria Concert Hall, during which she helped to set up the Alliance of Asia-Pacific Region Orchestras and the Singapore International Piano Festival. Tisa is a board member of the HK International Literary Festival, and vice-chair of the Association of Asia and Pacific Arts Festivals. She serves on the board of the International Society for Performing Arts; and chairs the International Advisory Committee of the Tong Yeong Concert Hall, S Korea. She is currently facilitator of the Cultural Leaders’ Lab in Singapore and on the international faculty of the Accademia Teatro alla Scala in Milan, Italy. ! Austin Mang-Chao WANG – Director, Taipei Performing Arts Center, Taipei, Taiwan! With a profound understanding of literature and the ability to exploit modern technology, Austin Wang graces the theatre playground with his humor, insight and exuberance. Be it a rotating stage or a simple stage covered only with a thin sheet of rice, nothing is too unusual for this mischievous magician as he pulls excitement and surprises out of his bag one after another. He is born a theatre soul and lives to prove it true. As a keen reader with a good understanding of language, Austin is one of a handful of theatre designers who could directly communicate with playwrights and convey his designing philosophy precisely with eloquence. Austin Wang may look like a model of sophistication, but deep down there is a hopeless romantic hidden within. Sky may be the limit of the world, but definitely not this genius’ imagination. Austin Wang received a BIAA award in Warsaw in 2004. In 2007, he sat on the judging panel of Prague Quadrennial of Performance Design and Space (PQ) and acted as the convener of the Taiwan team. The Taiwan Exhibition won Theatre Technology Award that year. He was the director of stage design at 2009 Deaflympics in Taipei.! ! ! Harri Kuorelahti - Artistic Director, Zodiak – Center for New Dance,!Helsinki, Finland ! ! Harri Kuorelahti graduated from Theatre Academy Helsinki in 1990. Since then, he has worked as a dance artist, performer and choreographer in many freelance productions in Finland and abroad. He has been the Artistic Director of Zodiak – Center for New Dance and Side Step Festival since September 2009. Kuorelahti was one of the leading dancers at Helsinki Dance Company (HDC) during the years 1990–2006 and was a founding member and an active artist at improvisation group Suomussalmi-group in the 1990´s.
