DIVISION Roads and Public Works

DIRECTLY RESPONSIBLE TO: Director of Roads and Public Works

INDIRECTLY RESPONSIBLE TO: Chief Administrative Officer

MAIN PURPOSE:

To provide engineering work experience to students who are enrolled in a college or university civil engineering program.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Responsible for gathering electronic data for inclusion in the municipal GIS system.

2. Preparation of design drawings using AutoCAD..

3. Preparation of project summary reports.

4. Conducts surveys as required

5. Working with consultants to construct the Town’s GIS system

6. As required, performs flagging and maintenance duties in conjunction with other Public Works staff

7. Other related duties as assigned

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS TRAINING

 Ontario Secondary School Diploma and registered in a post secondary education program in civil engineering  Must have a sound working knowledge of computers particularly with word-processing, spreadsheets, GIS, AutoCAD  Must have a sound working knowledge of a GPS and survey equipment JOB TITLE: Roads & Public Works Engineering Student PAGE: 2 of 2

 Good communication skills  Ability to work independently with a minimum of supervision  Pleasant, efficient manner dealing with others both in person and on the phone  Well organized  A valid Ontario Driver’s License and a vehicle.

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:

Internal: Directors, Supervisors and Departmental Staff

External: Government ministries and agencies, public, professional consultants

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Office environment Required to work 40 hours per week Overtime and travel may be required (reimbursed) Outside work may be required Weekend work may be required
