After finishing another year of instruction, how do we know students improved? Are the lessons we deliver challenging students and raising their level of achievement? According to the most current research, instruction that works best in raising the level of student achievement encompasses a variety of factors, the most prevalent being visible student learning.

This course is designed to explore the components of challenging students to increase overall achievement through research, online videos, reflection, future planning and professional conversations among all participants. Opportunities for professional collaboration will promote successful practice in every area of study.

The overall goal of this course is to inform teachers of what works best in creating lessons that raise student achievement in their own classrooms based on the most current research and collaboration.

Upon completion of this course, teachers will have:

 shared best practices and infused these into their own curriculum for the 2017-2018 school year.  created a successful culture of learning for the new school year by reflecting on the previous year.  researched the most current findings in raising student achievement through collaboration and online exploration.  a collection of new and/or enhanced current lessons using Danielson’s Framework and the NYS CCLS.  the know-how to create challenging lessons that foster visible learning, higher level thing skills, higher level questions and answers.  the experience of reflecting upon their own lessons to determine what made them outstanding (or not!)  research-based knowledge of the characteristics of highly effective lessons, discussions with colleagues about these lessons, and the experience of analyzing and rating them using the APPR framework.
