Lieutenant Colonel Barry Whiteside 16 17 18 HISTORY OF LEGISLATIVE ACTIONS 19 20 Date Body Action Description with journal page number 21 3/4/2015 Senate Introduced and adopted ( Senate Journalpage 9) 22 23 View the latest legislative information at the website 24 25 26 VERSIONS OF THIS BILL 27 28 3/4/2015 29 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 A SENATE RESOLUTION 10 11 TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND LIEUTENANT COLONEL 12 BARRY WHITESIDE, U.S. ARMY (RET.), OF RICHLAND 13 COUNTY FOR HIS OUTSTANDING WORK IN SUPPORT OF 14 VETERANS THROUGH A POSTTRAUMATIC STRESS 15 DISORDER SUPPORT GROUP AND TO WISH HIM ALL THE 16 BEST AS HE CONTINUES TO SERVE OUR VETERANS. 17 18 Whereas, the South Carolina Senate is pleased to learn of 19 Lieutenant Colonel Barry Whiteside’s outstanding work in support 20 of our veterans through a posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) 21 support group, Vets for Vets; and 22 23 Whereas, as an active member and deacon at Irmo’s Gateway 24 Baptist Church, Barry Whiteside had a vision for a muchneeded 25 ministry in his church: a support group for veterans dealing with 26 PTSD. This career military man had full understanding of what 27 veterans with PTSD had to cope with since he was living with it 28 himself; and 29 30 Whereas, with fellow retired serviceman Henry Humphries, Barry 31 Whiteside embarked on the new ministry, which has been growing 32 for several years and now includes members beyond the church 33 rolls. Any veteran is welcome to attend; and 34 35 Whereas, since its inception, Vets for Vets’ fine reputation has 36 spread by word of mouth among veterans in the community, and 37 the ministry is making such a huge difference in the lives of the 38 veterans it touches that the group needs to divide and begin a 39 second group; and 40

[518] 2 1 Whereas, to add to the effectiveness of Vets for Vets, Barry 2 Whiteside, who served as a sniper in special forces, also donates 3 his time to minister to veterans individually; and 4 5 Whereas, in addition to his work with Vets for Vets, Barry 6 Whiteside works with his church’s student ministry, for which he 7 teaches eleventh and twelfthgrade boys, and in the community he 8 serves as a physical therapist at Lexington Medical Center. He and 9 his wife, Janice, have two children, Jonah and Jordan; and 10 11 Whereas, in recognition of his spirit of excellence and dedicated 12 service to the veterans he serves, Gateway Baptist Church will 13 honor this tireless patriot on Memorial Day, Sunday, May 24, 14 2015; and 15 16 Whereas, the members of the Senate recognize that the success of 17 the State of South Carolina, the strength of its communities, and 18 the vitality of American society as a whole depend, in great 19 measure, upon the dedication of individuals like Lieutenant 20 Colonel Barry Whiteside who use their talents and resources to 21 serve others. Now, therefore, 22 23 Be it resolved by the Senate: 24 25 That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, 26 recognize and commend Lieutenant Colonel Barry Whiteside, U.S. 27 Army (Ret.), of Richland County for his outstanding work in 28 support of veterans through a posttraumatic stress disorder support 29 group and wish him all the best as he continues to serve our 30 veterans. 31 32 Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be provided to 33 Lieutenant Colonel Barry Whiteside. 34 XX 35
