The Culminating Task; Developing a professional digital identity

The students will have to create an e-portfolio respecting the outlines and tools given by the teacher. This

Media Production will reflect their journey, their products, their talents, their technical skills and their reflections in the domain of Visual Arts, level 1 to 3. The students will get all the elements of the situation of creation; will make the selection of the artifacts that are representative of their personal objectives in their personal archive; will use specific websites to edit their artifacts; will make various hyperlinks to self-reflection; will help their peers to attain their objectives in the way that will be determined in small community (team); will assess their learning on the whole process of developing a professional digital identity; finally will present their e-portfolio to an audience.

Preparatory work

Start the collection of artifacts and organize the storage folders From Level 1 to 3. Jacynthe Lavoie Final project 35% Presented to Dr Eva Bures Special Topics on Technology Bishop’s University, School of Education GSE 550 B01 The preparatory work (of) will lead them toward the culminating task in cycle 2.

At this point, the students will be prepared to work within a community and more equipped to understand how and why they will be creating an e-portfolio of their own. According to the MELS; their knowledge of themselves and of their potential is strongly influenced by the social, cultural and spiritual groups to which they belong ...are particularly sensitive to peer pressure and they need to recognize the influence of others on their values, behaviours, attitudes and choices as well as the influence they themselves can. (P.16) Cycle 2 students are generally more aware of their identity and are choosing optional courses that fit their interests and needs. According to the MELS,

They are learning to define their options in order to choose a future path that corresponds to both their aptitudes and their preferences

(p.48). This means, they will undertake projects that are more relevant for them; furthermore this interest will have a serious impact on their self-esteem, motivation and implication in this unit.

The overarching purpose of portfolios is to create a sense of personal ownership over one's accomplishments, because ownership engenders feelings of pride, responsibility, and dedication. (p.10) - Paris & Ayres.(1994)

After watching the video “Why e-portfolios”; the students could be asked to write spontaneously a first reflection about how this video changed their view of their implication in the assessment process; how they can cooperate with others and if they understand the relevance of such a tool in today’s society. Therefore, questions will be given to them to express their thoughts before Jacynthe Lavoie Final project 35% Presented to Dr Eva Bures Special Topics on Technology Bishop’s University, School of Education GSE 550 B01 even starting the process of re-exploring their personal artefacts, collected in cycle 1. This will be helpful for the rest of their journey in cycle 2 and hopefully, in their professional life. From that point, the students must write down three objectives they will be working on throughout the process of creating their e-portfolio. The student will answer the first reflection alone and then, share his/her thoughts/emotions in small groups and make links between common objectives; they will have to identify 5 ways that they can help one another to attain their personal objectives.

Balancing the two faces of e-portfolio-Inspired by Helen C. Barrett

The second task in this unit would be to reproduce, without seeing, this concept map developed by Helen C Barrett. 2009.

This is another opportunity for them to understand what their learning objectives are and the many advantages of creating such a tool for themselves. The concept map should be done in team of 3-4; same or different than the last activity. The students will be given this list of concept and key words that must be included in the concept map below. The third task would be to explore the different possibilities of using the Yolasite site builder. As a teacher, you have to be familiar with each tool you suggest to the students. If you do not want to see your students work with too many different tools, you must give clear indications on your preferences as a teacher and/or use the same programs for everyone. The web hosting that I used for myself is Yola. As of right now, I am not working for any specific institution. I create my e-portfolio on my own. I thought it would be very interesting to create a site that allows me to showcase my works as an artist and as a teacher. I have created these sites and never really had the opportunity to use them in my practice. In a specific institution for instance, the students could be using an e- portfolio program, such as Mahara, that could be used with Moodle. Although Mahara is meant to be used as e-portfolio, I did not find it relevant graphically for this project. I discovered Yolasite.com and find it very simple to use and is offering a lot for free. It is possible for a student to make 5 sites and connect them pretty easily. This site is very manageable and practical, beautiful. For the written part of the process; PBWor
