Brownsboro Road Sidewalk Update I was pleased to read in yesterday’s C-J insert that supporters of this project have started their own website, www.safe42.org, in order to provide accurate and detailed information about this project and their work for the last 13 years to get a sidewalk along this neighborhood corridor that runs through Clifton and Clifton Heights. I have spoken directly to the Mayor and his Chief of Staff, Ellen Hesen, and have been assured that the only delay in this projects implementation is administrative in nature and that the start of this project is very near. We’ll keep you posted on the start date as soon we have it.

Mayor Challenges Community to Join “Give A Day” Mayor Greg Fischer challenged the community to “get in the race” and help Louisville set a world’s record for public service during the Give A Day volunteer week April 15-22. The week of service helps launch this year’s Kentucky Derby Festival and coincides with National Volunteer Week. “Whether you give an hour or a day, donate a canned good, give blood, volunteer at a local non-profit agency or simply do a good deed for a neighbor, you can make a difference and help set a record for caring,” Fischer said. “We want people challenging each other: ‘What are you doing for Give A Day week? How will you make Louisville an even more compassionate city?’” Fischer said the goal for the week is at least 55,000 volunteers and “acts of kindness.”
Anyone wanting to get involved should go to the website: www.mygiveaday.com , There individuals or groups can volunteer for a growing list of projects and needs submitted by local non-profit agencies, churches and other groups. Organizations needing volunteer help can also use the website to register their projects.
Slow down and stay safe while driving! Excessive speeding is the main contributor to over a third of all fatal traffic accidents. Speeding is a problem for everyone but teenagers in particular need to obey the speed limits and traffic laws. Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for U.S. teens, accounting for more than one in three deaths in this age group. Fortunately, teen motor vehicle crashes are preventable, and proven strategies can improve the safety of young drivers on the road. Driving demands full attention. Your responsibility is to operate the vehicle safely. Distractions like the radio, cell phones and passengers take your attention away from the road. Remember, increasing distractions increases the risk of a crash. Always buckle your seat belt! If the car has a passenger-side air bag, do not let children or small teens ride in the front passenger seat. They should be buckled up in the back seat. Never drive after drinking or taking drugs! Even some over-the-counter drugs can impair driving. Check the warning label before taking them. Drive defensively, and obey traffic laws and speed limits. You do not own the road, but you do own a car. Be responsible and protect it, yourself, and others. Watch out for aggressive drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists. Headlights make you more visible to others. Use them during dusk, night, dawn, inclement weather, and even daylight on long stretches of roadway. 2 | P a g e Keep at least a two-second distance away from the vehicle ahead of you.

3 | P a g e Louisville Regional Airport Authority The Louisville Regional Airport Authority (LRAA) Board of Directors recently approved the five- year (fiscal years 2013-2017) capital plan. The plan, which includes FAA and LRAA funding, estimates that the Airport Authority will spend approximately $140.5 million on capital projects ($129.6 at Louisville International and $10.9 million at Bowman Field). As part of the plan, the Board approved a new Airport Layout Plan for Bowman Field, reflecting changes made to the airfield during the past 13 years and the new, more stringent FAA airspace safety standards (TERPS) that are now in effect at Bowman Field. As part of the plan, the Board also approved the Bowman Field Airport Area Safety Program. The program, designed to comply with the new safety standards, also includes measures to minimize, as much as possible, the impact on neighbors' trees that now may protrude into the newly protected airspace.
Next steps include publicly requesting proposals for a team to oversee the program. The selected team will then conduct a detailed, property-by-property survey, with the results forwarded to the FAA for their determination as to what measures must be taken to comply with the new standards. For more information about the program, click here.
