Our long-awaited, final performances are here! Yes, you’ve received email notifications from me and from our AMS Band Boosters, you’ve seen it on the AMS School Calendar, and we’ve discussed the dates in class, and it’s really about to happen! Performances are a required element of being in a performance class – all students are expected to attend. It’s nice that something as fun and fulfilling as a concert is a requirement. Here are some instructions for students and parents for the days leading up to and the nights of the performances that should help things run smoothly.
Parent help is needed! Because I want to use as little class time as possible setting up chairs and stands for our concert, I ask that parents help with set up and take down of equipment in the auditorium. If you can help with set up, please come to the auditorium at 2:30 on Sunday, May 21st. Help is also needed to return equipment to the band room on Wednesday, May 24th at 2:30 p.m. Please consider helping with these important tasks. It should take about 30 minutes.
Concert Attire - Students are required to wear a standard outfit when performing with the Apex Middle School Bands. Please let me know in advance if you feel you will have difficulty obtaining the required concert attire. Gentlemen Ladies Dark dress shoes Dark dress shoes Solid dark socks Dark socks or hose if needed Black dress pants Black dress pants (no leggings) White dress shirt (no t-shirts) White dress shirt (no t-shirts) Neck tie (optional) Attire for the student body performances on Wednesday is anything Apex and long pants, any shoes. Shorts are not appropriate for the stage. 8th graders and Jazz Band could wear their black tour t-shirts
As students arrive to the school they should report directly to the auditorium. Cases may be left in the car. Students should bring instruments and music inside. Do not play instruments until instructed to do so, which means don’t play on the way to the auditorium, as you’re getting seated, etc. We will assemble on stage behind the closed curtain. Please adhere to the following arrival times:
8th grade band – Monday, May 22nd, 6:30 p.m. 6th grade band – Tuesday, May 23rd, 6:00 p.m. 7th Grade Band – Tuesday, May 23rd, 7:00 p.m. Jazz band – Monday, May 22nd, 7:00 p.m., and Tuesday, May 23rd, 6:30 p.m. (This applies to you if your grade level band is not already performing on that night).
SWEET SPOONS at Haddon Hall Commons (772 W. Williams Street in Apex) will be open after both concerts until 10:00 p.m.! Come out after the concert and celebrate your child’s musical successes. And if rewarding your young musician isn’t incentive enough, 15% of sales profit from these two nights will be donated to the AMS Band Boosters!
