A Few Selected Sociological Research Resource Databases

Academic Search Complete: Big general database that is highly useful for researchers in almost any discipline. Much of the material indexed is full-text online.

AgeLine: A database that focuses on the population aged 50 and over and issues of aging. It provides indexing and abstracts for over 200 journals, books, book chapters, and reports related to "social gerontology," or the study of aging within the psychological, health-related, social, and economic contexts. Many article citations link out to full-text.

Criminal Justice Abstracts: Criminal Justice Abstracts provides comprehensive coverage of the major journals in criminology, criminal justice, and related disciplines. Topics include: crime trends, corrections, juvenile delinquency, offenders, violence, and victims. Many of the articles will be full-text online if this database is searched in conjunction with Academic Search Complete and other Ebsco databases.

JSTOR. JSTOR (Journal Storage) is mostly archive collection of older articles from full text scholarly journals primarily from university presses and professional society publishers. Additional titles are added to the collection as back files are digitized. Subject areas include: African American Studies, Anthropology, Economics, Education, History, Political Science, Population Studies, Public Policy Administration, Sociology, and Statistics.

MEDLINE (EBSCO): MedLine provides indexing for journal articles in medicine, nursing, dentistry, veterinary medicine, and many of the social aspects of the health care system. Many of the articles are full-text online especially if this database is searched in conjunction with Academic Search Complete.

ProQuest Criminal Justice: ProQuest Criminal Justice is a major database supporting research on crime, its causes and impacts, legal and social implications, and crime trends. It includes scholarly journals, correctional publications, crime reports, and other material relevant to researchers.

ProQuest Dissertations and Theses (PQDT Global): Indexes most of the US and Canadian dissertations and quite a few theses. Much of this book length material is full-text online.

ProQuest Social Sciences Premium Collection: This collection provides access to databases covering the international literature in the social sciences, including politics, sociology, social services, anthropology, criminology and education.

PsycINFO: PsycINFO covers nearly all of the psychological topics since 1887. Published by the American Psychological Association (APA), PsycINFO indexes more than two thousand periodicals. Most of these peer-reviewed articles are full-text online.

Social Sciences Citation Index: SSCI lists and tracks articles and authors cited by others in scientific journals.

Social Services Abstracts: Social Services Abstracts indexes over 1300 research-oriented serial publications focused on social work, human services, and related areas, including social welfare, social policy, and community development.

Social Work Abstracts: Indexes the articles in hundreds of social work, social services, and human services journals. Many of the articles are full-text online if this database is searched in conjunction with the other Ebsco databases such as Academic Search Complete.

Sociological Abstracts: Sociological Abstracts (SocAbs) provides citations and abstracts on all aspects of sociology and related disciplines in the social and behavioral sciences including criminology and criminal justice topics.
