MEMBERS PRESENT: Jacqueline G. Pace, R.D.H. Darryl J. Pirok, D.D.S. Jeffrey Levin, D.D.S., Ad Hoc Member Misty Sissom, R.D.H., Ad Hoc Member

STAFF PRESENT: Sandra Reen, Executive Director Catherine Chappell, Administrative Staff Assistant

GUEST PRESENT: Carolyn Moore-Mooso, PSI Test Development Specialist (by telephone) QUORUM: Three members and two Ad Hoc members were present.

PUBLIC COMMENT: None

MINUTES: Dr. Young asked if any additions or corrections to the minutes of the December 7, 2006, meeting were necessary. On a properly seconded motion by Ms. Pace, the minutes were adopted.

ONLINE-MEETING Before giving her online presentation of the proposed test DISCUSSION: questions, Ms. Moore-Mooso required that the Committee review and sign an Examination Security Agreement. She also provided the Committee with rating forms for review of each of the proposed test questions for the law exam. She asked that the agreements and rating sheets be returned to her by mail.

Ms. Moore-Mooso asked about having a separate examination for dental hygienists. Ms. Reen replied that the Committee had previously decided that one exam would be available for all licensees to be used in disciplinary cases as well as a continuing education tool to show an overall understanding of dental practice law.

Ms. Moore-Mosso asked for the Committee’s input in determining the passing score on the law exam. Dr. Levin suggested a Virginia Board of Dentistry 2 Examination Committee May 18, 2007

higher score than 75% since the test was intended to be in open- book format. Ms. Moore-Mooso suggested a passing score of 80%.

After reviewing approximately 2/3’s of the proposed test questions, the Committee asked that the test questions be revisited at a later date, allowing for revisions and additional test questions to be formulated.

Ms. Reen noted that specific questions regarding required equipment for anesthesia, sedation and analgesia regulations were not included in the presentation. She asked that Ms. Moore-Mooso include such information in the revised test. Additionally, Ms. Reen expressed concern that an inordinate amount of questions were dedicated to the Law on Patient Health Records, while the Dental Law and Regulations did not receive adequate coverage.

Ms. Reen requested that she and Ms. Moore-Mooso continue their conversation on test content on Monday, May 21, 2007 by telephone. Ms. Reen proposed that the Committee meet again at 2:30 on Thursday, June 7, 2005, to further review the test questions.

After Ms. Moore-Mooso left the meeting, the Committee agreed to meet again on June 7, 2005, at 1:00, with the online meeting to begin at 2:30. Ms. Reen advised that she would provide the Committee with the highlighted information that she had provided to PSI for question formulation. She also advised that the Maryland Board of Dentistry had its law exam on its website and asked Ms. Chappell to obtain information for the Committee in this regard.

ADJOURNMENT With all business concluded, the Committee adjourned at 2:45 p.m.

Glenn A. Young, D.D.S., Chair Sandra K. Reen, Executive Director
