AVIVA ANNUAL APPEAL

Aviva (formerly Christchurch Women’s Refuge) is a Canterbury-based, specialist family violence agency. Last year we worked with more than 1,600 children, women and men throughout their journey - from crisis intervention, through family violence education, to the support of wider personal wellbeing. Only 45% of our funding comes from the government contracts and we need to generate more than $1 million each year from other sources to keep our services running.

We are reaching out to our community to ask you to support those who are on their journey to overcome family violence.

Would your organisation be interested in running a fundraising event for Aviva? If the timing of our appeal week does not work for you, feel free to pick any date that works better for you – we love support all year round.

You might be keen to run one of the classic, tried and true fundraisers e.g. bake sale, car wash, movie night, raffle, quiz night etc. But if you are after something a bit different we have created some fun ideas for inspiration. Fun Fundraising Ideas

Adult Spelling Bee Who in your organisation is the top speller? Get teams of 3 or 4 adults to enter by giving a donation and let them compete for a grand prize.

Auction The Best Spot Reserve a premium parking space in your carpark. This can then be auctioned off to the highest bidder or given out through a raffle. This can also be organised for best spot in the office (the desk by the window etc.).

Baked Bean Eating Competition How many can you eat in a minute using only a tooth pick? Contestants could pay to enter to win a donated prize or people could sponsor them per baked bean.

Break the Balloon Put prize slips inside balloons and blow them up. Sell the balloons for a set price, and once sold instruct everyone to pop their own balloon and see what they've won. It should be fun watching how people do this.

Cat Nap If you can sweet talk the boss into this idea, sell 15-minute nap vouchers allowing the purchaser a little time out from their busy day. You might need to limit the number that each person can buy so they get some work done! Coffee Collection Box Have a collection box by the office coffee machine. Ask people to make a donation for each cup they have for a day, week or month.

Dare to Wear Dare to wear the most outrageous, crazy outfit. People can vote for the craziest with a donation and the person with the most money wins.

Dinner Party Invite friends or colleagues around for a dinner party. Provide a lovely meal and ask guests for a donation.

Doggie Wash Dog owners love to have a clean furry companion. Your group will need a large space with access to warm water. Sell refreshments to dog owners to raise even more money.

Go Without for a Week People choose the thing they would struggle to go without (social media, coffee, technology, car etc) and get sponsored if they can last the whole week without it.

Lunch With the Boss or President If you have a CEO, Chair or President that is friendly enough, get members of your organisation to bid for a lunch date with them (and the CEO pays of course!)

Master Chef Cook/Bake Off Contestants are given list of special/unusual ingredients that should be included in their dish. Invite people come to the tasting (in return for a donation) and the best dish wins a prize.

Nearly New Sale Outgrown those jeans? Only worn something once? Why not sell or swap your unwanted things with others? Charge a certain amount for each item that's taken.

Reverse raffle Everyone gets given a ticket and ‘challenges’ are set (eg dancing, singing, cartwheel, impersonation etc). If people don’t want to risk having to do a challenge they have to pay to get their number taken out of the draw.

Spa Night Find volunteers to give manicures, pedicures and 5 minute massages at a Ladies Night Out. Get a group of friends and colleagues to come along in return for a donation.

Talent Auction Why not auction off talents for the day (or an hour or two)? It could be babysitting, carpentry, gardening, cooking or your graphic design skills…. anything that might be helpful to others. Contact Details If you decide to do a fundraiser, we would love to hear about it and share your plans, photos and successes with our other supporters. If you are running a larger event that is looking for support beyond your team please get in touch, we may be able to help promote it.
