2012 Cariad, Red Wine

Cariad, the Welsh word for “love”, is a Bordeaux-style red wine blended from three outstanding vineyards owned and managed by David Abreu. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc from Madrona Ranch are blended with small amounts of fruit from Thorevilos and Howell Mountain, producing a wine of enormous proportions with a classic structure that is the Colgin hallmark: a plethora of vibrant aromas, voluptuous at mid-palate, with impeccable balance and an exceptionally long finish. A wine as seductive as its name.

Tasting Notes from Winemaker Allison Tauziet: An exotic blend of densely lush ripe fruits and savory spices leap from the glass. The viscous 2012 "Cariad" contains pure aromas of plum, licorice and dark currants with interplays of cardamom, barbecue spice and subtle smoke. Ethereal purple floral notes dance in the glass, while hints of gravel and wet stone bring gravity and a brooding tone. The wine is at once elegant and hedonistic. Seductively textured with unctuous tannin, the palate is luxurious. Dense, coating and even salivating, the 2012 "Cariad" represents the optimum ripeness from Napa Valley, married with the pedigree of the greatest Cabernet Sauvignon-based wines of the world. Blended of 53% Cabernet Sauvignon, 26% Merlot, 12% Cabernet Franc and 9% Petit Verdot this will be an exceedingly long lived vintage of "Cariad."
