JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE: Welsh Language Senior Training & Quality POST REF: Officer. DEPARTMENT: Children & Schools GRADE: 7 DIVISION: Performance & Community SECTION: Learning Pembrokeshire RESPONSIBLE TO: Area Lifelong Learning Co-ordinator / Lifelong Learning Manager JOB PURPOSE

To plan, organise and deliver quality training for tutors and to formally assess the quality of teaching and learning of tutors in line with .Estyn standards and guidelines.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

to prepare a scheme of work. to provide adequate lesson plans. to supervise and monitor the general organisation of the class.  to assess and evaluate students' progress with regard to the aims and objectives of the course.  to be aware and advise students of other courses, provision etc. to which they can be referred if required, to enhance their education.  to complete registers, returns etc. as requested.  to inform Learners of accreditation and progression routes.  to report for duty a quarter of an hour before the class commences.  to request and ensure that the necessary resources are available.  to check that the class venue is in order at the end of each session.  to accompany the class on visits and other learning activities outside the class as and when appropriate.  to promote extracurricular activities to promote learning  to develop an annual training programme for new and experienced Welsh tutors and keep training records.(  to provide first-line management and support for Welsh tutors.  to provide statistical information and reports as and when required.  to organise and undertake a full programme of class observations annually to evaluate quality of teaching and learning.  to organise cross border class observations with other main providers to ensure quality of provision  to co-ordinate the development of course materials in conjunction with the Curriculum and Resources Officer.  To attend training courses organised by the National Centre for Learning Welsh ; Estyn and other National recognised bodies.  To represent the service on the National Centre for Learning Welsh Training and Quality meetings  To support the Welsh Language Lifelong Learning Coordinator in preparing the annual Self Assessment Report ( SAR )  The post holder is expected to teach up to 2 days / week  To share good practice within the service with tutors  To support the Welsh Language Lifelong Learning Coordinator in completing the service Performance Review with tutors and administrative staff.  Maintain the security of personal data in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998 Programme Development  Provide first line management and support to Welsh tutors-responding to staff queries on course delivery.  Identifying, delivering, evaluating staff training and development workshops.  Maintaining training records and implementing DPP procedures.  Developing and monitoring quality assurance procedures – class assessments/lesson plans/recording procedures and DPP.  Interviewing / selecting new tutors and assisting in induction programme.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

 A qualification in teaching or training and relevant experience in teaching Welsh in an educational environment.  A level or higher qualification in Welsh  Experience of working with groups or individuals in a Community Education setting.  Experience of identifying and organising training for teaching staff.  Experience in the support guidance of teaching staff.  Capable of managing own time and workload and co-ordinate the work of tutors.  Prepared to work a flexible timetable including unsociable hours.  Ability to work as a member of a team.  Excellent communication skills, written and verbal.

Skills  Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and negotiate training requirements with teaching and office staff.  Articulate and confident to deal with enquires for training.  Must possess a full driving licence.

Knowledge  Thorough knowledge of training requirements required for Welsh for Adults tutors. ( Cymhwyster Cenedlaethol )
