Independent Reading Requirements

Volume of Reading (30 points) Required number of Pages- 800 Extra credit given for every 100 pages over required total- 2 points per 100 pages to a maximum of 10 points

Reading Logs (10 points) Students are required to keep a record of pages read on their Books Completed Log. A record of AR tests for the marking period must be stapled to the reading log when submitted for grading.

Post-It Notes (30 points) Students are required to post-it their thinking throughout the reading of their book and apply skills we have learned in class to promote critical thinking. Students Post-It Notes will be collected and assessed as part of their Independent Reading Grade.

AR Test- (30 points) An AR test must be taken for each book in order to receive credit for having completed the book. Students top three AR tests will be counted towards the 30 points for AR and a percentage will be calculated out of 30. If one AR test is failed the student may substitute a one page typewritten summary. It will be up to the discretion of the teacher in terms of credit for having read a book if the student fails more than one AR test.

Class Preparation Students must come to class with their independent reading book (Kindle, IPAD and Nook also permitted), binder, assignment book and post-its each day.
