HAVE GERMAN WILL TRAVEL BAYERN Konig Ludwig II und die bayerischen Schlosser/ Bavarian Castles SchloBbauer / ,,Castle Builder" Ludwig was notably eccentric in ways that made serving as Bavaria's head of state problematic. He disliked large public functions and avoided formal social events whenever possible, and preferred a life of seclusion that he pursued with various creative projects. He last inspected a military parade on 22 August 1875 and last gave a Court banquet on 10 February 1876Y81 His mother had foreseen difficulties for Ludwig when she recorded her concern for her extremely introverted and creative son who spent much time day -dreaming. These idiosyncrasies combined with the fact that Ludwig The coat of arms of King Ludwig avoided Munich and participating in the government there at all over the entrance to Schloss costs, caused considerable tension with the king's government Neuschwaostein. ministers, but did not cost him popularity among the citizens of Bavaria. The king enjoyed traveling in the Bavarian countryside and chatting with farmers and laborers he met along the way. He also delighted in rewarding those who were hospitable to him during his travels with lavish gifts. He is still remembered in Bavaria as Unser Kini, which means "our cherished king" in the Bavarian dialect. Ludwig also used his personal fortune (supplemented annually from 1873 by 270,000 marks from the Welfenfonds[19J) to fund the construction of a series of elaborate castles. In 1867 he visited Viollet-le Duc's work at Pierrefonds, and the Palace of Versailles in France, as well as the Wartburg near Eisenach in Thuringia, which largely influenced the style of their construction.

Hometown Dynamics Fraueninsel on Lake Chiemsee: Artists’ paradise and place of longing The peaks of the Chiemgau Alps rise majestically to the south-east of the small island of Fraueninsel on Lake Chiemsee. The leaves of the ancient trees sway gently in the wind on the shores of Bavaria’s largest lake – accompanied by the constant splashing of the waves. The shallow banks, small bays and extensive moorland combine to create a picturesque lake landscape like no other. Frauenchiemsee artists’ colony: The mythology of a complete natural idyll For centuries, people have been captivated by the beautiful scenery of Lake Chiemsee. In 1828, four young artists from Munich settled on the secluded little island of Fraueninsel on the lake. This marked the birth of the Frauenchiemsee artists’ colony, which includes sculptors and writers and is one of the oldest and best-known artists’ colonies in Europe. The artists record their longing for perfect beauty on canvas using opulent motifs: the romantic fishermen’s houses of the island, the floral gardens, the decorated houses, the breathtaking natural idylls in the interplay of light and cloud shadows. In this way they use their landscape paintings to spread the mythology of Bavaria around the world. Island pottery: Traditional craftsmanship with a love of detail To this day, artists still live on the secluded, car-free Fraueninsel in the middle of Lake Chiemsee. One of them is Georg Klampfleuthner from the island’s pottery. Founded in the year 1609 to serve the monastery, the pottery has been in his family since 1723, and has been passed down from generation to generation.

  • Combining a Theodolite-Based Measurement System and Stereophotogrammetry for the Recording of Herrenchiemsee Palace
COMBINING A THEODOLITE • BASED MEASUREMENT SYSTEM AND STEREOPHOTOGRAMMETRY FOR THE RECORDING OF HERRENCHIEMSEE PALACE Michael Korte adiplan GmbH D-8000 M0nchen, Germany Jurgen Peipe Bundeswehr University Munich Institute for Photogrammetry and Cartography D-8014 Neubiberg, Germany ABSTRACT The measurement system CASOB consisting of electronic theodolites with electronic distance meter, a personal computer, some additional hardware tools and sophisticated software is applied to the recording of the palace Herrenchiemsee in Bavaria. CASOB yields 3-D coordinates of discrete object points and interfaces directly with common CAD systems. The measurement results can be displayed on site on the PC monitor and further processed in the CAD system. Photogrammetrically determined information can be combined with the CASOB data. As an example, the upper part of the southern facade of Herrenchiemsee was recorded from a lifting platform with photogrammetric cameras. In this paper, special attention is focused on the use of CAD in order to produce quickly, precisely and economically the entire 3-D model of a building and some follow-up products such as ground and elevation plans, and sections. 1.
