Primary Guided Reading Lesson Plan Title: Mr. Cricket Finds a Friend Genre: Text Structure: Level: G by Patricia R. Kelly & Annette Fantasy Narrative Informational Zuiland Literacy Standard: Structural Analysis, suffixes Purpose for Reading: To find out how Mr. Cricket Content Standard: Friends solves his problem Enduring Understanding: The noises insects make Essential Questions: What makes a good friend?

Before Reading Vocabulary: cricket, crawled, caterpillar, another Phonics: word endings: ing, ly, ed, es

Activate/Build Background Knowledge: What do you know about crickets? They jump and chirp. Is Comprehension Strategy: Prediction this story real or make-believe? How is Mr. Will Mr. Cricket find a friend? Cricket dressed?

During Reading While you are reading check to see if your prediction happened. Notice how the story begins, what happens in the middle, and how does the story end?

Attend to Comprehension Within, Beyond, & About the text: After Reading What was Mr. Cricket’s problem? How did he solve it? Discuss how Mr. Cricket found a friend. What insects didn’t want to be friends with him? Why didn’t the insects want to be friends with him? Discuss the prediction the children made. If it didn’t happen, then what really happened. Discuss the beginning, middle, and end of the story. Word Work: Look for words with the suffixes: ing, ly, ed, es.

Attend to Comprehension Within, Beyond, & About the text: Content Core Integration:(Science, Soc. St., Math, etc.) Assessment: Activities: Listen to the children read the story the next time they meet for guided reading
