Purpose and Content

This class is designed for the development of personal character and high ethical standards through the development of skills in vocal technique, sight -reading, vocabulary enrichment, music theory and performance skills. It is designed to develop small ensemble skills, which require advanced listening and vocal skills and personal commitment to quality rehearsal. Members must be willing to schedule multiple concerts and few after school rehearsals to maintain membership. Elements are mastered for the purpose of performances in school, festivals, and community.

Required Materials:

IPAD Black, 3 ring binder, one inch Pencil, NOT pen- markings may need to be erased Music to be distributed in class

Financial Obligations- $125.00

This includes: $75.00- Uniform Rental $25.00- Performance Music $15.00- Accompanist $10.00- Incidentals (Competition registration, buses, etc.) This fee includes the $25.00 paid at registration. There will be ample opportunity to fundraise the financial requirement. The first $50.00 (of the remaining $100.00) is due NO LATER THAN OCTOBER 1. Class Rules:

Be respectful.

All Hoover City Schools and Spain Park High School Code of Conduct policies will be followed.

Grading:

Grades will be based on a total point scale, with the breakdown being as follows:

Required Performances 100 points Participation (3 per 9 weeks) 50 points Music Memory Tests 25 points Class Reading Assignments 25 points Homework/Class Assignments 10 points

Make-up Work:

Make-up work will be available to students in the case of an excused absence. Students will have three days after returning from an absence to make-up any work missed. It is the student’s responsibility to contact the teacher concerning any make-up work. Work can be completed before or after school or during Academic Opportunity.

Performance Requirements:

All performances, unless otherwise stated by the director, are required and worth 100 points. Alternate arrangements can be made in case of an emergency. All performances will be scheduled and students notified more than two weeks in advance.

Optional Performance/Service Opportunities:

Chamber Choir- Auditioned, SATB ensemble. Meets once a week before school and several AO's throughout the year. Large time commitment. Barbershop/Sweet Adelines- auditioned quartets of men/ladies singing barbershop style music. Meets during several AO's throughout the year.

Show Choir Crew/Band Member- audition only for band member. Assist with equipment loading/unloading, assist in sound booth during performances. Travel to all show choir competitions and attend practices starting in November. Service hours available.

Server/Assistant- Chamber Choir Madrigal dinner. Work as a server during dinner, help with design and set-up for performance, assist with clean-up and equipment moving after performances. Service hours available.

Talent Show Assistant/crew member- assist with equipment set-up, use and cleaning for talent show auditions and first and final rounds. Sell tickets for both rounds of the talent show. Run backstage crew during first round. MC first round or finals. Service hours available.

(This list is not exhaustive and all dates are subject to change. More than two weeks notice will be given when possible when dates are changed. A second calendar will be distributed at the beginning of the Spring semester). I have read, understand and will abide by the Concert Choir Syllabus.
