FUNDAMENTALS

Work Environment Located: 155 Roden Street, West Melbourne

Working Conditions This position is 0.9 (FTE) Salary range: $50,862.24 - $54,774.72 dependant on experience (pro-rata) plus 9.5% superannuation and generous salary packaging. Whitelion provides three additional gifted annual leave days during the Christmas period.

The Ramp Program Mentoring Worker’s Strategy and Purpose The Ramp Program Mentoring Worker’s purpose is to support the organisation’s vision by Engaging and supporting young people to become involved with Ramp workshops and Mentoring Program activities and delivering results and sustainable growth.

This role provides young vulnerable people with an opportunity to grow, develop and realise their full potential by: • Assisting in the coordination of recruitment, training, screening and on-going support and supervision of volunteer mentors • Run group activities for young people and mentors to assist with the matching process and ongoing match support • Assist with preparation of program reports as required and assist in the collection of quantitative and qualitative data for evaluation purposes • Act as an effective Whitelion team member and abide by agency policy.

To engage young people in the program  Gain a comprehensive understanding of the client group for this program.  Provide young people with positive experiences through recreational activities  Act as a positive role model for young people  Engage young people in residential care in the Eastern Metropolitan Region To assist in the co-ordination of volunteers  Participate in the recruitment strategies for potential recruitment, training, assessment and ongoing mentors support  Ensure that promotional material is up to date and accurate  Participate in the assessment process for mentor applications  Participate in the formal interviews, reference checks, assessment reports of potential mentors

KEY RESULT AREAS (KRAs) Key Tasks

 Participate in facilitating the pre accreditation training and mentor matters training.

To provide ongoing support and supervision of  Ensure regular support and supervision is provided to all mentors and lead mentors mentors  Document issues arising as appropriate  Encourage and support mentor participation in ongoing training and support group attendance  Participate in the on call roster if required To co-ordinate the matching of young people  Participate in and facilitate camps and workshops as with suitable mentors appropriate  Develop an understanding of young people’s interests, issues and needs from the mentor program  Gain an understanding of specific characteristics of individual mentors, including experience, skills etc.  Regular monitoring of young people who are matched  Co-ordinate the matching of young people with suitable mentors To prepare program reports and assist in the  Undertake reporting to funding bodies as appropriate collection of quantitative and qualitative data  Participate in the development and administration of for evaluation purposes evaluation forms and other evaluation as determined appropriate.  Maintain appropriate databases. To generate and maintain strong community  Develop networks with government and non- links government agencies and other organisations as appropriate  Liaise closely with young people’s care teams to ensure appropriate information is exchanged regarding the progress of the young person and their match  Identify mentor recruitment strategies through networks

To participate as a member of the Whitelion • Understand and abide by Whitelion policies including team OH&S, conflict resolution • Participate in staff and team meetings, as well as supervision with line manager. • This position includes out of hours work, and some weekend work as part of the Mentoring team activities. • Attendance on annual Ramp Camp with possibility of other Camp opportunities.

Key Selection Criteria EDUCATION / QUALIFICATIONS Relevant tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Youth Work or similar fields is required.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE • Relevant tertiary qualification in youth work, social work, psychology, social science or related area and/or demonstrated relevant employment experience • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Victoria’s Child Protection System and the skills to integrate the program within this system and to liaise effectively with DHS staff • Understanding of the needs of young people involved with the Child Protection System • Demonstrated commitment and ability to work effectively with disadvantaged young people, their families and communities • Excellent verbal and written skills in addition to a high level of interpersonal, liaison and negotiation skills which allow you to build rapport and trust with various stakeholders • Ability to work independently and as part of a team • Demonstrated ability to work with, and support a team, of volunteers • Willingness to undertake a criminal record check and Working with Children Check • Hold a current drivers licence and be prepared to drive fleet cars, conduct outreach and transport young people.
