EDTE 373A. Assessment Center Laboratory I. Individualized support for the infusion of technology into teaching. Support for students as they build an electronic portfolio. Prerequisite: Admission to the Single Subject Credential Program. Co requisite: Enrollment in Semester 1 of the Single Subject Credential Program. Graded: Credit / No Credit. Units: 1.0.

Course Description

Welcome to Assessment Lab I. 1. This course is intended to support students to meet "technology" standards required by the California Teacher Credentialing Commission (SB 2042 Multiple Subject and Single Subject Preliminary Credential Program Standards. January 2009, adopted March 2009. http://www.ctc.ca.gov/educator-prep/standards/MSS-Preliminary-Credential-Program- Standards.pdf Technology Standard 11. p. 35.) 2. Students will need learn and/or demonstrate competency of basic technology knowledge and skills essential to beginning teachers based on standard 11. Students will also need to learn to use "TaskStream" to develop a required e-portfolio that meet SB 2042 teacher performance assessment (TPA) requirements. 3. Some work in the course will be individualized based on the results of a "diagnostic." The diagnostic will be given on the first day of class and will be used by the instructor to plan instruction and assessment taking into account individual student differences. 4. Attendance at "Open Labs," will be required of students who have not met requirements of the assignments and will support students in meeting the course requirements. 5. 1. Identify and develop computer operational knowledge & skills 2. Identify and develop technology for teaching, and demonstrate knowledge of its application to specific instructional strategies. 3. Identify technology to support or enhance student learning, and demonstrate knowledge of its application to students learning guided by curriculum content standards. 4. Identify knowledge of technology for communication and information processing. 5. Demonstrate basic knowledge of basic knowledge of computer troubleshooting and available avenues of technical support. 6. Demonstrate basic knowledge of electronic research tools and appropriate use of online information. 7. Demonstrate knowledge of computer related safety issues. 8. Demonstrate knowledge of the E-portfolio requirements and competency with the TaskStream E-portfolio tools. Assignments & Grading : EDTE 373A is graded credit/no credit. Assignmets: 1. Online Survey: A link to this assignment is on the instructor’s web site at www.csus.edu/indiv/r/rodriguezm Students are to take the survey designated for their cohort, either San Juan or Elk Grove. 2. Hands-on Diagnostics Assessment: The diagnostic is used to identify basic technology skill areas for improvement. 3. Teacher Education Program Student E-portfolio Reflections: E-portfolios are required in the Teacher Education Program, and will consist of assignments from different courses in the Teacher Education Program taken through the 3 semesters of the program. TaskStream, a web-based e-portfolio system, will be used to develop and submit the student E-portfolios. 4. Web Page Developments: Web pages will be developed in TaskStream. The content of the pages will be developed from information provided in the “classes” and supported in the “open labs.” Each web page must be completed prior to the weekend following the class. If it is not completed attendance at the open lab is required. Late work beyond the open lab will not be accepted for credit. 5. Lab Activity Participation: Attendance at all classes is required; attendance at open labs may be required. Grading: In order to receive credit for EDTE 373A you must receive a Passing Score for each assignment. Scores for assignments will be posted in TaskStream. 1. Online Survey (Pass or Fail); must be fully completed. 2. Hands-on Diagnostics: After taking the diagnostic assessment; attendance at the first open lab may be required receive a Passing Score. 3. Teacher Education Program Student E-portfolio Reflections: Reflections on the E-portfolio will be required and announced at class sessions and all reflections must be completed. Feedback will be given in TaskStream by the instructor. The reflections will be created in students TaskStream “Web Page Developments (#4), but will be scored separately. Attendance at open labs may be required to achieve a passing score. 4. Web Page Developments: Each class session instruction on an activity will be provided to guide web page developments aligned with the course learning objectives. The majority of web page development is to be completed and scored in TaskStream, although a class activity may include some web page development outside of TaskStream. Web page developments will be individualized. Following class sessions attendance at open labs may be required to achieve a passing score. 5. Students are required to check TaskStream scores for assignments on Monday of the week of the open lab to know whether attendance at open lab is required. Not receiving a passing score means that attendance at the open lab is required. Information about open lab requirements will be provided to students by the day of the open lab. Required Resources

2 1. Review Course Outline/Syllabus 2. Review and understand TaskStream uses in EDTE 373A Class 2 and for your E-portfolio. Develop web page and 1st SJ 2-2 reflection of E-portfolio. This reflection should be EG 2-3 submitted for evaluation. 3. Web page from class session one should be completed by this day and submitted for evaluation in TaskStream. 3 Open Lab 1 1. Working on TaskStream/E-portfolio. SJ 2-9 2. Working on technology skills based on results of the EG 2-10 diagnostic.

4 Class 3 Web Page Development Lab Activity (Resources Online for Instruction/Video) Learn how to create the following multimedia resources  Know how to download Video From the Internet (youtube), convert and insert Video into Powerpoint  Know how to record capture video screen into a video file (WATCH VIDEO TUTORIAL).  Know how to convert a PPT into a video; this will help to reduce the ppt into smaller file sizes.

Lab Activity 2-16

SJ 2-16 Online Resources: Video EG 2-17 Learn how to work with video. Create the different types of video instructionally related materials. You choose the focus of your instruction. You should try and be successful at the following:

1. download video from youtube, convert it, insert it into powerpoint 2. use camstudio to record a ppt presentation

Create a detailed reflection on your experiences in the 2-16 lab and submit in TaskStream.

6 Class 4 Web Page Development Lab Activity: (Class 4) Activity 3-2 SJ 3-2 EG 3-3 1. Go through Wiki-Walkthrough - make a link to your wikispaces wiki here in TaskStream. 2. Reflect on Delicious and Wiki Experiences here. 3. Discuss question on "taking and using Youtube video" in the TaskStream Discussion Board. The Discussion Board is called "2010."

Complete by this Sunday or come to the open lab (follow the instructions from link below to complete the assignments on wikis and delicious)

1. Use Screen Capture Software and Create a Movie. Upload your movie to your webpage and create a new area in your web page for the video. Create a title page for your movie. This assignment will require use of Windows Movie Maker or similar program such as iMovie if you have a Mac. Class 5 2. Review Finding Online Resources. Create online SJ 3-16 Resources. See the "Online Resources" link below. EG 3-17 o Organize TaskStream Web Page, Request and Give Comments to the your fellow classmate that you are assigned to. See web link to "Instructions for Class 5..." to see who you are matched with. Provide comments to at least one person.

In your Web Page, create a "Section" within your "E- SJ 4-6 portfolio" area called "PACT." Within the PACT section, EG 4-7 create the following areas: o Context o Planning for Instruction & Assessment o Instructing o Assessing o Reflecting o Language o For each section, Context - Language, describe what you comfortably understand about each section's relevance to "teaching." Use the discussion board to help with your descriptions as we post topics in the discussion during the PowerPoint presentation/discussion. 2. Review your partner's Online Resources section, post a comment on this section describing what you learned from your partner's Online Resources (wikispace resource only). Remember that the Wikispace Resource should have an objective or instructions to guide your learning in the Wikispace Resource. 3. Create a Twitter account, form a group with your classmates, protect your Tweets so that only those you approve will receive your tweets. You will not appear on the public timeline by doing so. Our open lab will help to support this activity if you are having problems (April 20 or 21). Send 20 tweets by the end of the semester. Only send tweets that your "grandmother" would approve of.
