Canopic Jar Project

We have learned that ancient Egyptians used canopic jars to hold the body organs of the dead and were decorated with pictures to represent the dead. The lids of the jars often were the shape of their deities. Your assignment is to create your own canopic jar using magazine pictures to reflect your life and today’s culture. You should decorate your bottle with items that reflect your personality.

Rubric – Out of 75 Points

Examples – 25 Points Can you explain the meaning of your jar and how it represents your life and current American culture.

Effort – 25 Points Please take the time to make your jar pleasing to the view and relevant to your life – not just random pictures.

Presentation – 25 Points You will present your jar in front of the class and be able to explain why you chose the pictures that you placed on your jar.
