History of Math as We Know It Due on ______

You will be researching a famous mathematician. You will create and present a presentation on him/her and his/her contribution to mathematics and contribute your research content to a wiki.

Start by picking a mathematician to research. Each person must choose a different mathematician to work on (i.e. Once Pythagoras is chosen, no one else can choose him). We will go to the library on ______so that you can begin your research together.

Your presentation should consist of the following information: a. Brief history of your mathematician (where he/she was born, lived, what interested them in mathematics, etc.) b. Interesting fact or facts about the mathematician’s life c. A thorough explanation of the mathematician’s contribution to mathematics d. Explanation of how the mathematician’s contribution is used today or how the contribution led to further mathematical or scientific discoveries e. Properly formatted Works Cited (be sure to give credit where credit is due!)

If you need help figuring out how to use mathematical symbols in your presentation, let me know. You can use “Insert”, “Object” and select “Equation Editor” if you are using Microsoft Word.

Your presentation should meet the following criteria: 1. All written parts should be typed and added to the wiki. 2. If you are submitting a report, please include a cover page. 3. Use a minimum of three sources, one of which must be print (and be sure you check the credibility of any websites that you use, see the teacher or librarian if you have questions). 4. Visual projects should also include a works cited page.

Suggestions for projects: 1. Power point presentation 2. Web page 3. Written report 4. Pamphlet/brochure
