Iwan Hywel chaired the meeting in the absence of Rhys Roberts.

2 Have Your Say None 3 Performance and gospel singing workshop with Deborah and Jacqueline Marshall Gospel singers, Deborah and Jacqueline Marshall gave brief overview of the history and spiritual roots of gospel music. Reference was made to local Welsh link, Lord Richard Pennant, owner of the slate mines in Bethesda who exploited and profited from slaves and miners. Initially playing a video ‘Be Happy’, they hope to inspire all through audience participation, showing how jazz, blues and hip hop brought about freedom of expression in the late 1900s.

4 EGM, 11.00-13.00, 5 November 2016, Glyndwr University, Wrexham Company Secretary, Stephen Thomas gave a brief presentation on the final proposals for the new identity and logos. for it. He passed around the proposed strapline and explained how the tag lines could be added to it to suit the target group i.e. ‘in your community’ or ‘in your workplace’. All were asked to indicate their preference on the voting paper provided. The decision on the new name/branding will be made on 5th November, at the EGM due to be held in Wrexham. The idea of having a National Assembly has been taken away due to doubts expressed. Regional forums will be strengthened due to these constitutional amendments going forward.

5 Campaign for Adult Education DR explained that there was good representation at the hustings. The electronic campaign was a success, generating 2,500 emails to candidates. Available funds have reduced but the need for adult education remains. It is also important that a wide range of education is supported. The campaign group will continue to lobby to AMs.

6 Report from the regional representative and issues arising from the work and minutes of the Council Toni Schiavone is the regional representative and on the Council. David Elis-Williams did not attend the most recent Council meeting but gave a brief update from the previous one. He confirmed that the restructure was coming to a conclusion.

7 Learning Manager’s report and regional issues and plans Learning Manager for the North Region, Michelle Kerswell explained that there were now 3 regions and a National Delivery team.

James Berry has now been appointed Curriculum and Quality Co-ordinator. Development Workers are now called Curriculum Delivery Officers and there are 4 within the North Region. Admin support is now based in Llandudno Junction.

Welsh Government funding filters into the budget allocation we have. The target for North is 93,000 and we have reached 38,000 so far. The WCVA, Active Inclusion project is challenging as the targets are specific. 75% of the cumulative target has been met.

The Quality and Learner Services team have now updated the system to get certificates out quicker and the regional Facebook page is now up and running.

8 Minutes and matters arising Apologies from Vivien Allen were not included on the minutes. The minutes were agreed as accurate other than this.

9 Date of Next Meeting To be arranged around the end of February. It was asked if it would be possible to hold meetings in the evening or at weekends as week days are difficult for some to attend. Transport was also an issue for some. Michelle suggested VC could be an option just as we are linked to Cardiff and Ebbw Vale today.
