Job Purpose:

To work as a member of the team responsible for designing, implementing and optimising ICT infrastructure for the entire University.

Key Accountabilities/Primary Responsibilities (6-10 bullet points maximum)

Planning

To advise the ESD Team Leader of the products and resources needed to meet the agreed operational and service specification.

To advise the ESD Team Leader on suitable products within the commercial market place to meet identified needs, to identify gaps that the commercial marketplace cannot fill and to offer alternative solutions to a market approach as needed.

To advise the ESD Team Leader on suitable current and emerging products within the market place to meet identified needs.

To determine the needs of the users of products in all areas of the University and to determine how best to deploy products in the specialist area to meet the user needs.

To assist in the determination of the needs of University business processes and the needs of planned developments within the University and how best to deploy products and systems to meet those needs.

Operational

To participate in the implementation, configuration and documentation of specialist tools, applications and

1 equipment.

To provide innovative solutions to the delivery of services and facilities arising from iSolutions plans.

To advise iSolutions on the specification and the development of appropriate product evaluation programmes in the Enterprise Systems Development arena and to lead in such evaluations and procurements as appropriate.

To advise iSolutions of the software tools, applications, equipment and/or resources with the provision of documentation, support and training materials as appropriate

To ensure the integration of new solutions with other existing products and services delivered by iSolutions.

To participate in the development and implementation of quality assurance monitoring programmes, as agreed with the ESD Team Leader, for the development and delivery of products suitable for enterprise use.

To undertake any other duties as required by the Director of iSolutions.

Internal & External Relationships: (nature & purpose of relationships)

The post-holder will be expected to undertake the duties as part of an integrated team and will be expected to adopt priorities and engage in activities, which promote the effective working of the whole team.

The post-holder will be expected to liaise with relevant members of the University, suppliers as appropriate and with colleagues in other institutions and related organisations.

It is expected that the duties will be performed in the light of the relevant activities in Higher Education generally. The post-holder will be expected to be aware of the activities and initiatives being formulated nationally and internationally within the relevant specialist area and will be expected to take part in such activities should they be relevant to and of benefit to the work being undertaken locally.

Special Requirements:

To maintain the relevant level of professional expertise and qualifications to discharge the duties of an Infrastructure Engineer.

There may be a requirement to work varying core hours, and on occasion to work outside normal hours, to ensure that service commitments are met.

Experience of creating deploying Experience in Prince2, and maintaining scripts using one ITILv3, or similar best or more of the following: Perl, Bash, practice Python.
