November, 2012 Vol 1 Issue 2 November Reflections Most people do not realize that Halloween is a Christian celebration. The word, Halloween, means “Hallow’s Eve”. It is the night before All Saint’s Day on November 1. We are all called to be saints. We can serve God by showing our love for other people. Jesus taught us ‘This is my commandment: love one another as I have loved you.” John: 15:12
We can also ask a Saint to pray for us and ask the Saint to pray to Jesus for us too. For example, when we want our animals healthy, we pray to St. Francis of Assisi for his support. If we know someone with “lost causes”, we pray to St. Jude for his help. If women are pregnant, we pray to St. Gerard Majella for his guidance. Our Saints also help us know Jesus through their works and their prayers.
On November 2, we celebrate “All Souls Day”, we take the time to Saint of the month remember our loved ones who had died and we hope that one day we will Venerable Fr. Solanus Casey join again with them in Heaven with God. Birthday: November 25, 1870 This year, we are celebrating the “Year of On November 22 – We will celebrate Thanksgiving and it is a wonderful Faith” October 11, 2012 to November 13, tradition. We take a time-out from our work, from our schools and 2013. We will honor Venerable Solanus celebrate being together with our families and friends giving thanks to Casey this month for his love for people God for our blessings especially with our recent experiences with Mother through Jesus. Nature.
He was a Capuchin priest. Solanus had a hard time studying. When he became a Our Mass Schedule priest, he was not allowed to say Mass or hear confessions. Instead he became the Come and Join us on Sundays! doorman welcoming people into the church. Our Masses at: He worked at Manhattan, NY and Detroit, Blessed Teresa of Calcutta, Holy Saviour Site, MI and few other places. 50 Emerald Ave., Westmont, NJ 08108 10:00 am Mass (in ASL with Fr. Joseph) Soon people started to talk to him and Fr. Solanus took the time to listen. He would also offer them soup and just chat with a Christ the Good Shepherd Parish person for hours. Fr. Solanus would often St. Isidore the Farmer Church pray with the person. People named him (Interpreted)1655 Magnolia Road “the holy priest”. When they would come Vineland, NJ 08361-6598 and visit the church they would say “where *1st and 3rd Sundays at 9:30am is the holy priest?” . For example, one person was looking for a Ministry With the Deaf and Persons with Disabilities job, he went go to Father Solanus. They prayed together, the next day the person 631 Market St. Camden, NJ 08102 got a job! Kate Slosar and Sr. Bonnie McMenamin Co-Directors, Ministry with the Deaf Fr. Solanus died in 1957. His life showed us Fr. Joseph Pham, Chaplain that we can love and be of service by answering our call to be a saint.
