1) Can the latest updates to the Wiki be added to the top of the page? We try to remove the unnecessary stuff/old stuff as we add things to the wiki. We will try to post new stuff towards the top, but it may not work since we teach multiple subjects. (We will try though. Thanks for the suggestion.

2) Why wiki and not eboard? Last year most of the school system moved to using wikis. We are using wikis to help the students transition easier to their middle school format. Haynes uses wikis, Taylor uses Echo which is a similar format (not exactly a wiki). Attaching larger files is easier for the teachers using wiki, rather than eboard. If ever you need anything cleared up, just send us an email.

3) Are there going to be any study guides for Social Studies? Is it going to be five lessons each week for a test? Mrs. Falanga will try to have a study guide for each of the tests. There will not be five lessons every week. This first week was mostly a review!

4) Are spelling tests going to be oral or multiple choice? Most likely we will be given orally in context of a sentence. Multiple choice as standardized testing nears. We haven’t set a date for our first test. We will make sure it is written in the students’ agendas.

5) When will we visit the middle schools? How do we apply? We haven’t visited the middle schools as a grade level in the past couple of years. This is because Taylor and Haynes both have offered prospective students a special evening open house. Taylor’s is scheduled for October 23rd. We haven’t heard about Haynes yet. Based on previous years, students in good standing from Metairie Academy, having a C average and good behavior, are automatically entered into these schools. A form comes home for you to list your preferences around January or February. This is always subject to change. If we hear differently, we will let you know.

6) Do you have a list of the books , novels to be read this year? We are working on finalizing that list. At this point, we are reading Wonderstruck, The Birchbark House, Hatchet*, Out of the Dust*, The Witch of Blackbird Pond*. This is a tentative list based on the curriculum sent by the state. The * means we have 99 copies for the students. Ones without the asterisk mean we have 66, which can be shared or we will purchase more as we finalize plans. 7) Will homework (for math) always be reviewed in class prior to being given to do at home? i.e. no now material for homework? Homework is always an extension of what has been covered in class.

8) Will the children be issued Eureka workbooks for Math? We have spoken to Ms. Blanke. The parish has not provided this resource to the children, but Ms. Blanke is looking to see if it is more cost effective to purchase the workbooks rather than the copies they are currently receiving.

9) Will students be expected to use Moby Max this year? This is yet to be decided, you will be notified of expectations in ample time.
