LESSON OVERVIEW: succinctly write an overview of the lesson

STANDARDS: write the actual standard and associated identification letters/numbers or merely write the identification letters/numbers

RESOURCES/MATERIALS:  Include bibliography, as needed.  Indicate if resource is something that is provided in the lesson or not  Indicate differentiated resources.  Not necessary to list basic school supplies, unless for a special project

ESTIMATED TIMING:  Include how long the lesson will take to conduct (e.g., two 50-minute class periods).  Indicate where in the unit this lesson is taught (e.g., “teach this lesson after reading Chapter 2” or “in the prior lesson, students defined thesis”).

LESSON DETAILS :  Number each detailed step so the lesson is easy to follow.  Begin each detailed step with a verb phrase (e.g., “Practice multiplication,” “Identify examples of figurative language,” “Complete graphic organizer”). Put each verb phrase in bold type and underline it so teachers’ eyes immediately go to it.  Follow each verb phrase with the detailed directions for conducting the lesson by describing both the teacher’s and students’ roles. These directions include instructional and teaching strategies to conduct this learning activity.  Indicate differentiation.  Include grouping.  Refer to any resources or materials that are listed above in the “Resources/Materials” section. The lesson details need to explain what teachers actually do with these resources and how they are incorporated into the teaching of the lesson.

EXTENSION: Explain what the extension will involve, such as:  individual or small groups  mandatory or optional  for some or all students  homework or in class  necessary materials  time estimates for each suggested extension activity

ASSESSMENTS:  Expressed as nouns or nouns phrases (e.g., observation of participation; “What method of characterization?” handout; written journal response  List formal assessments by specific name if it’s a handout, quiz, assessment, etc. (e.g., “Sensory Details graphic organizer,” “Causes of the Revolution journal write”)
