Name three ways how he encouraged the teacher and built up his self-confidence.

Why did the principal introduce the concept of linking subject matter to vocational studies? What role is he playing in this instance?

The observation is completed and it is time for the post-observation conference. If you were the principal, what would you want to accomplish in this conference?

How would you structure the conference, keeping in mind what was discussed pre-conference, what the teacher’s goals were, and what may have happened in the classroom during the observation.

What contributes to a teacher’s ability to relate to and motivate students? The teacher’s energy? Youth?

The method of observing a teacher in ELV1 is very different from video clip ELV3 – Peer Observation and Evaluation. What do you believe are the strengths and weaknesses of this approach to evaluating teacher performance?

Principal Castillo noticed a need for more professional development when he came to Whittier High School. What were the indicators that were needed?

Why didn’t traditional classroom observation techniques result in positive change? How did the principal change the process to make it more effective? How did he insure that the staff supported the new protocol?

Why would a teachers’ union object to a peer observation format? Do you agree with their stance on this subject? Would you have made concessions with the union or stood your ground?
