Fairplex Event Traffic Management Fairplex Follow-Up Meeting March 7, 2001

Summary of Major Issues Discussed (to be incorporated into Traffic Management Plan)
Annual Fair Event: Gate 17 (SW site) has as many as 14 lanes for parking payment during Fair. Gate 14 (NE lot) has as many as 8 lanes. Season parking is also at Gate 14, closest to Pavilion-area events. Sheraton parking lot has 3 lanes for parking payment. Patrons of horse racetrack are brought in through SW lot (Gate 17). Gate near Arrow Hwy./Fairplex Dr. (15) only open during Fair weekends. 3-5 lanes can be used. Gate 12 at equestrian center used occasionally for exit-only during Fair. Gate at Arrow Hwy./La Verne Ave. is only open for 100,000+ attendance. May close perm. in 2001 Temp. ped xing on Fairplex near airport is usually utilized on second and third Saturdays of Fair. 1,400 cars can be parked in dirt lot on NHRA Events: NHRA grandstands seat 30,000. At maximum, Fairplex has parked 13,000 cars for an NHRA event. 45,000 attendees would put Fairplex at absolute capacity. Gate 15 on Arrow Hwy. used as service gate during NHRA events. Overflow traffic from northbound Fairplex is sent east on McKinley, north on White to Gate 14. Misc. Issues: One swap meet occurs each month. 15,000 in attendance, on average. Business band radio used during most events to keep in contact with Pomona PD. Parkers used during major events. Gate 14 lot could be divided into five large sections for parking management. Gate 17 lot - four sections at southern end, one section in middle, four sections t northern end (near Gate 15)
