BYLAW NO 10709
Being a Bylaw to Deal with the Provision of Ambulance Service Within the City of Edmonton
WHEREAS City Council provides an ambulance service to the whole of the City of Edmonton.
NOW THEREFORE the Municipal Council of the City of Edmonton duly assembled enacts as follows:
1. In this Bylaw;
(a) “hospital” means a hospital or an auxiliary hospital within the Province of Alberta as defined in the Hospitals Act, R.S.A. 1980, Ch. H-11;
(b) “inter-hospital transfer service” means a service by which patients are transferred from one hospital to another;
(c) “patient” means a person who is or appears to be in need of medical attention;
(d) “public ambulance service” means a service associated directly or indirectly with the transportation of patients using an ambulance, but excluding an inter-hospital transfer service;
2. The Council hereby prohibits any person other than the City of Edmonton from providing a public ambulance service within the City of Edmonton.
3. Any person who contravenes section 2 of this Bylaw is guilty of an offense and upon the issuance of an offense ticket, shall pay a fine of $2,500.00.
4. Every day during which such contravention continues shall be deemed to be a separate offence.
