Job description

Job title: Teacher (Three Spires, Coventry)

Salary: MPS/UPS

Grade: MPS 1-6 / UPS 1-3

Location: Coventry

Reports to: Head Teacher

Purpose of job

To work as a class teacher, taking full part in the planning, implementation, assessment and delivery of a suitable curriculum for children at the school.

Main tasks

1. To teach a class of children according to their special educational needs and deliver their Individual Education Plans.

2. To plan and resource lessons, including the deployment of teaching assistants. 3. To assess pupil progress and to set effective targets for further progress and development so that pupils move on to new learning in a timely way including maintaining learning journals or other evidence of learning.

4. To develop, monitor and regularly update Individual Education Plans for all pupils in the class.

5. To liaise effectively with therapists, parents and health care staff as appropriate to meet the needs of individual pupils.

6. To support, guide and direct Teaching Assistants to meet the needs of pupils.

7. To work with the other teachers in the planning and resourcing of the curriculum, and be responsible for co-ordinating curriculum areas as agreed and for their development across the school.

8. To write reports as required, keeping up- to-date records of the pupils’ progress and curriculum participation

9. To manage class resources effectively.

10. To maintain effective positive communication with parents, carers and other professionals, promptly highlighting any concerns about the welfare of children to the Head Teacher.

11. To assist in developing school policies and procedures, as appropriate and to follow procedures in all matters.

12. To attend staff meetings as required taking an active part in the staff training schedule.

13. To ensure teaching areas are kept clean, tidy and safe for the children at all times, to provide an environment that is aesthetically pleasing, conducive to effective learning and reflects the recent work of the children.

14. To undertake such training as will ensure continued professional development, keeping up to date on educational matters by reading and attending courses and sharing information with colleagues.

15. To undertake any other reasonable duties associated with the post, as may be required from time to time. Person specification

All criteria are essential unless otherwise stated.

1. Specialist knowledge and experience

1.1 Qualified teacher, with the ability to teach across key stages.

1.2 Ability to prepare, deliver and assess effectively to support pupil progress so that all lessons are good or outstanding.

Desirable

1.4 Experience of working within an SEN setting.

1.5 Experience of working within KS1 or KS2

1.6 Experience of working with pupils with learning difficulties, autism and/or communication difficulties.

1.7 Working knowledge of Communicate in Print, Makaton, PECS and TEACCH.

1.8 Experience of Team Teach approaches to behaviour support.

1.9 Experience of B Squared assessment program.

2. Communication

2.1 Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

2.2 Ability to demonstrate commitment and to support the ethos and aims of the school

3. Organisation

3.1 Ability to prioritise workload effectively and to work under pressure to meet deadlines 3.2 Adaptability and flexibility at a time of maximum change

4. Building relationships

Ability to work within a small school and maintain professional relationships.

5. Problem solving

Positive approach to solving problems and difficulties with a demonstrable resilience in the face of such difficulties.

6. People management

Ability to lead a small team of Teaching Assistants, including recruitment, setting objectives, developing staff and managing performance.
