I believe that Jesus is the Messiah because of the resurrection (Matthew 28:1-20; Mark 16:1-20; Luke 24:1-53; John 20:1-21:25) The enemies of Christ take every precaution 1. The sealing of the stone – the setting of the guard (Matthew 27:62-66). 2. The fabricated story in an attempt to deny the resurrection (Matthew 28:11-15). Eye witnesses of the resurrected Christ 1. Mary Magdalene (Mark 16:9; John 20:11-18). 2. The other women after they left the sepulcher (Matthew 28:9). 3. Peter (Luke 24:34). 4. The two men on the road to Emmaus (Luke 24:13-31). 5. The certainty of the judgment (Acts 17:30-31). 3. Begotten again unto a lively hope (I Peter 1:3). 4. To reign on David’s throne (Acts 2:30; Romans 15:12).
The resurrection of Christ is the cornerstone of the gospel – I Corinthians 15:1-8 1. Purpose – for our sins. 2. Certainty of His death – He was buried. 3. His victory over death – resurrection. 4. Verification – eye witnesses.
The Bible teaches a bodily resurrection (Daniel 12:2; John 5:28-29; I Thessalonians 4:13-18; John 11:27; Acts 17:18; 32)
Points to ponder 1. There is an earthly body and a heavenly body (I Corinthians 15:40). 2. The natural body goes into the grave – the spiritual body comes from the grave (I Corinthians 15:44). 3. There is definite correlation between the two (Matthew 8:11; 17:1-5; Luke 16:19-31).
Of additional interest 1. Adam was the first man (I Corinthians 15:45). No prehistoric man! 6
2. There are different kinds of flesh (I Corinthians 15:39). No evolution from lower animals.
