Test Retakes and Improvements

Test Retakes and Improvements Anyone can retake or improve their test score, provided you follow the procedure below. How it affects your grade is different based on whether you have passed (got at least 70%) or not. Here’s what you need to know/do:  You have 2 weeks from the day the test is given back to accomplish this  You must go to Compass Learning and complete the review assigned to you (usually it’s the name of the unit, e.g. Ch 10 motion review). Be sure you do the review and not the tutorial.  You must take notes while you watch the review and turn in the notes.  You must take the quiz(zes) assigned.  If you passed the original test, your score will go up by 1% point (up to 5%) for each point your online quiz scores are better than your actual test score. Example: Jules gets 78% on her test. She goes through Compass, watched the tutorials and hands in her notes, takes the quizzes and gets 81% on the quizzes. I would add three percentage points to her grade. If she had scored 83% or more, I would have added 5 percent to her grade. If there is more than 1 quiz, the grades are averaged.  If you did not pass the original test, you must come in for a test retake with me. I won’t give you the whole test, only the parts you had difficulty with (so I can see that you increased your learning), so the retest will be shorter. You can get a maximum of 75% on the retake, but remember this is in the 70% category, so even a few percentage points on a retake can make a big difference.  If you do worse, either on Compass or on the retake, nothing bad happens. Your original grade sticks. You can only do better, not worse. Once again, you have 2 weeks to get all of this done (including a retake, if necessary), so budget your time wisely (I am not available on Monday or Friday).

Using Compass Learning: From school:  sign on to a computer and use the icon on the desktop that reads “Compass Learning.”  Your username and password are FIRSTNAMELASTNAME and then auroraXXXX (where XXXX is your lunch code)  Be sure to change the school to “acsd”  Once you are signed in, click on Physical Science and then the assignment. It will be titled “Ch XX review” where the XX is whatever chapter we just did. Click on that and it will open and you can get started. If you stop in the middle of a video, you’ll have to start over.
