Rix Abordo during the review of the proposed revisions for the Accessibility Law of the Philippines, held at the Department of Public Works and Highways- Central Office. Distinguished panelists present were DPWH Secretary Mark Villar, National Committee on Disability Affairs OIC Carmen Zubiaga, NCDA Assistant Director Mateo Lee, and United Architects of the Philippines Chairman for the Committee on Accessibility, Ar. Jaime Silva. Also present were representatives from Congress, Department of Social Welfare and Development, and various PWD organizations, to name a few. Also if you remember, Mang Noli was the first recepient of a wheelchair from the program for his wife who had a dibilitating stroke. On her way to recovery, we are now sending Noli's wife a cane to help her stand up during her sessions of therapy. Please keep sending your new and used wheelchairs and mobility devices. Every little help counts. Spread the Love! All entries were sent last Saturday, November 26. Judging was held last November 29 at the NCDA, with judges from FPPF, AFA, NCDA, MANILA BULLETIN, the College of Fine Arts from the University of the Philippines and the College of St Benilde. AFA Co-Founder and long-time FPPF Honorary Member Rix Abordowas then reunited with his godparents Eduviges Huang and Lito Beltran of the FPPF. Result and photo exhibit of the winners will be launched on December 4 at the main lobby of the Quezon City Hall at 9AM as part of the celebration of the International Day of PWD's, with ribbon cutting ceremonies to be led by Mayor Herbert Bautista. As a partner of the event, AFA will be using the winning top ten photos of the contest for the cover of the next batch of publication of the Accessibility Law. As you may well now know, AFA is the sub-group and affiliate of the United Architects of the Philippines - Quezon City Central Chapter, advocating for the rights of Persons with Disabilities through information campaign. AFA is currently recognized as the Top 30 Best Practices for Accessibility by the Zero Project, an NGO based in Vienna, Austria. Bejamin Panganiban, FUAP, ASEAN Architect, APEC Architect. Ar. Benjamin Panganiban Jr. is currently the National Executive Vice President of United Architects of the Philippines. His lecture highlighted the characteristics of Filipino architects in 4 C’s: Character, Competence, Credibility and Commitment. He also discussed practices of international architects, new technology used such as Building Information Modelling and Building Performance Modelling. He also presented new tools of the trade to answer the ever evolving demands and needs of the field. New trends in design and new specialization were also tackled. Just like the saying goes, Adapt or Perish, Filipino architects should be informed and constantly developing to keep up with our international counterparts.
