Toy Design Competition 2010

Toy Design Competition 2010 (Toy Design Category)

1. Introduction

Designing toys is a great way for students to learn about science, engineering and its design process. It has been found that playing with educational toys could enhance the child’s learning process through multisensory experiences, while nurturing a healthy social ability through role play and experience sharing.

This competition provides an avenue for Secondary School students (Young Designers) in Singapore to design educational toys using sustainable materials suitable for children aged between 5 and 8. By participating in this competition, students will be able to strengthen their problem solving, drawing and presentation, time management and social skills by working as a team.

Participants are expected to develop a conceptual design that will provide experiential or experimental learning for the children, ideally through the activation of two or more senses. As part of the increasing awareness of climate change and social responsibility, participants are encouraged to explore the use of sustainable materials.

This Toy Design Competition 2010 is organised by the Singapore Polytechnic’s School of Mechanical and Aeronautical Engineering and sponsored by the Hewlett-Packard Singapore (Sales) Pte Ltd, Play Imaginative Pte Ltd, LEGO Singapore Pte Ltd, Gadgets Yard Singapore and supported by the DesignSingapore Council.
