ACO MARCHING BAND CAMP – BROWNDOWN CAMP, HAMPSHIRE 24 – 30 OCT 09

1. The development of Music within the ACO has largely been confined to the Concert Band for a number of years. However, with the catalyst of Cadet 150, we now have a requirement to form an ACO Marching Band. This will give all cadets involved in music across the organisation the opportunity to learn to play in a very large band during a week long camp and potentially be a major part of an important, historical cadet event. The camp will be formed into sectional and massed band rehearsals, culminating in a massed performance at the end of the week. Other activities will be planned during the week, which will include shooting and external visits. Further Marching Band Camps are likely to be held in Apr and Jul 10 from which approximately 70 cadets will be selected to form the ACO Band to take part in the Cadet 150 celebrations in London in July 2010.

2. We will be also looking for members of staff that are keen to instruct in any of the instruments listed or provide admin support for the camp. Any staff who wish to be considered for this event should e-mail Sqn Ldr N A Sermon RAFVR(T) [email protected] stating their name, unit, wing and what support they can offer.

3. This first camp will not have any minimum musical requirements, but close consideration should be given to comments by Bandmasters/Music Teachers and any OC reference so that the very best candidates can be selected for this opportunity. As such applications are sought from all cadets who play in squadron bands, school bands or participate in music making outside the organisation (an accepted list of instruments can be found on the attached application form). There are a large number of places available, but preference will be given to musicians who have been selected to perform at the National Marching Band Championships. The cost of the camp will be approximately £35; this will cover the cost of a t-shirt and additional activities. The closing date for cadet and staff applications is 15 Jul 09.
