Why run? 1. Simple to start and effective 2. You set the course 3. Endorphins = Stress = 4. Increased energy 5. Health – Mental, physical (weight, blood pressure, muscular, even vision) 6. Lifetime activity

Rules of the Road Sunscreen & Sunglasses Run on the sidewalk when possible Run on the left side of the road (facing traffic) Stop at intersections and check for traffic Run single file around traffic and busy areas Be a defensive runner: make eye contact with drivers, be aware of your surroundings Wear reflective or light colored clothing based on weather and TOD Follow the buddy system Do not trespass
HEAT POLICY If excessive heat is forecast (Heat index 100o+), practice will be before school. No earlier than 6:30.
Lettering 1. Varsity team members running at the Regional and State meet.
2. Scoring as a Varsity runner in 5 of the 7 regular season meets.
3. Athletes may letter at Coach’s discretion.
Practice Check website for practice and meet schedule. Overview: August 13 – 17, 7 am August 18 (Saturday), TBD August 20 – 22, 7 am August 23 Plan for after school, but will take heat into consideration
Team Rules 1. Consult Universal Code of Conduct for Activities 2. Practice self care a. Hydration – I expect you to carry a water bottle during the day b. Rest – Aim for 8 c. Communicate and manage injuries appropriately d. Avoid destructive habits (substance abuse, overexertion, poor eating habits) 3. Make a commitment a. Practice starts @ 3:30 b. Give superior effort c. Be a good team member 4. Practice like you play… a. No music and wear shirts, shorts, and shoes. These rules are not all encompassing and each situation may be met with varying consequences.
