Session Description More than recipes, this session helps leaders lead their troop through the process of safely preparing food using no-cook and indoor cooking methods, includes tips and techniques on how to teach girls the steps of budgeting, menu planning, following safety guidelines, and making healthy food choices. Leaders develop strategies for grocery shopping and for effective management of food preparation with the troop.
Learning Objectives At the completion of this classroom session, the participant will be able to: 1. Identify a progression of food preparation skills 2. Develop a list of skills girls will need to develop for indoor food preparation 3. Start a collection of healthy recipes requiring skill development in preparation 4. Identify applicable safety, hygiene and sanitation procedures for food preparation 5. Explain how to teach girls about healthy eating and planning menus 6. Describe appropriate kaper charts 7. Session Description Building on the skills learned in Girls Cook In, this session prepares leaders in assisting girls with cooking food in the outdoors. Leaders learn essential outdoor cooking skills including: fire building methods, charcoal and camp stove cooking, and outdoor dishwashing and sanitation methods as covered in Safety-Wise. Leaders enjoy the hands-on experience of cooking a meal using different fuel sources and equipment such as one pot, box oven, and pie irons. Leave No Trace Principles also reviewed in this session.

List the skills girls will need to develop for outdoor food preparation 3. Start a collection of healthy recipes requiring skill development in preparation 4. Session Description Leaders learn to walk their troop through the process of planning and preparing for an indoor overnight adventure of up to two nights and three days, understand what procedures and forms are required, and how to use girl planning in preparing for an overnight. Topics include: girl readiness, progression, and group living skills. Leaders also become familiar with River Valleys’ properties and policies, Safety-Wise, and Leave No Trace principles while learning how to incorporate the Girl Scout Leadership Experience into their activities.
Learning Objectives At the completion of this classroom session, the participant will be able to: 1. Describe key readiness indicators for individuals and the group 2. Identify options for troop overnight locations – both council sites and non-council sites 3. Explain appropriate safety and emergency procedures for indoor overnights 4. Describe the steps in planning for an overnight & how to involve the girls in every step in the planning process 5. Create a packing list and describe the “dos” and “don’ts” that should be on the list 6. Identify appropriate council policies and forms that cover overnights 7. Describe the roles and responsibilities of the adults – leaders, families of troop members and other adults who are participating in the overnight – and the girls. Leaders learn basic knots and understand what gear is needed for a trip as well as the care and use of tents.

Session Description Leaders gain the necessary skills to guide girls through the process of planning, budgeting, and reviewing safety requirements and transportation needs when planning a regional or national trip lasting three or more nights. Leaders learn to help girls gauge their readiness and become familiar with Girl Scouts of the USA’s and Girl Scouts of Minnesota and Wisconsin River Valleys’ polices and procedures for extended trips.
Learning Objectives At the completion of this session, the participant will be able to: 1. Understand trip progression by evaluating appropriate skills needed for the success of any intended extended trip, including duration and distance. 2. Evaluate girl, adult and group readiness to provide for group and individual and group growth in setting appropriate goals. 3. Define and communicate girl and adult (leader/family) responsibilities for successful trip planning. 4. Create a climate of respect for differing cultures/religions both within the troop and the intended travel sites and incorporate that understanding in the trip planning process. 5. Create a plan packet and understand Girls Scouts of Minnesota and River Valleys permission/paperwork process. 6. Create trip behavior expectations and conduct guidelines. 7. Relate extended trip planning to Girl Scouts of the USA program. 8. Understand and be able to follow Girl Scouts of Minnesota and Wisconsin River Valleys finance policies, procedures, permissions, and guidelines and use them to successfully earn money to fund a trip. 9. Session Description This two-day session (includes an overnight in tents) will provide you with outdoor basic skills and cover all of the training needed to guide your troop on both an indoor and outdoor adventure of up to two nights and three days including cooking and food preparation. This combined session covers the information in Girls Cook In, Girls Sleep In, Girls Cook Out, and Girls Sleep Out. Learn about girl readiness, progression, and group living skills, while focusing on how to incorporate the Girl Scout Leadership Experience into your activities. You will obtain information about River Valleys’ policies and sites, Leave No Trace principles, the proper care and use of tents, and the best gear for your trip. Learn how to plan, budget, and safely prepare food using both indoor and outdoor cooking methods. You will gain hands-on experience preparing food using a variety of different fuel sources and equipment including one pot, box oven, Dutch oven, and pie irons. Other essential food preparation skills include: basic knots, jack knife safety, and outdoor dishwashing and sanitation methods as discussed in Safety-Wise.
