Food--Debbie Lemieux will be serving dinner, so, you can come hungry. Dinner will commence as soon as Debbie gives the word. A $2 donation is requested, please? Please bring some appetizer or other finger-food if you want to. Dinner: homemade WEDDING SOUP with BUTTERMILK BISCUITS & RED VELVET CHEESE CAKE for Valentine's Day! Plus PASSION FRIUT HOT APPLE CIDER!

Workshop--There will be no workshop this month, but if you have bromeliad-related questions, please bring them up during Show and Tell. Susana Pouso is the workshop chair. I’m sure she’ll have something for March!

2013 committees--The club needs volunteers to fill some committee slots this year. Please look at the list below and consider serving on one of the committees. Some have no committee chairs yet. New committee?? Would you like to go on club-sponsored tours?? Michael’s Bromeliads? Tropiflora? Elsewhere? If so, consider volunteering to set up the tours. That would be new committee. Tours are great fun, so let’s organize this committee.

Selby Plant & Garden Festival--Feb. 23 & 24. The SBS is invited to host a table. Members can provide information about the SBS at the event. We need a few volunteers for this event. We must notify the Gardens if we want to participate in this event. We’ll discuss this during the January meeting.

2013 SBS Show--We need some people to start working on the show in September. Do you want a show without judging? We’ll talk about that at the meeting.

Program-- Wes Rouse, a biologist, long-time volunteer at Selby Gardens, and former SBS member, will be presenting a program on development of the bromeliad database project at Selby Gardens. This should be very interesting. Auction plant--this month’s auction “plant “ will be a set of 4 small, rare Aechmea species.

Audit--The audit has been completed. Susan Stobo will report on it.

Board meeting--The SBS officers didn’t get together for the annual Board meeting yet. Stay tuned...

Bring your extra clean, labeled plants for the monthly raffle!

Bring money to buy raffle tickets and bid on the auction plant!

The SBS has only one representative to the Florida Council of Bromeliad Societies. We are required to have two. If you are interested, please see Terrie Bert or David Johnson. Being an FCBS representative is fun and you get to know interesting and important people in the bromeliad world.

PREVIOUS MEETING MINUTES Sarasota Bromeliad Society Meeting January 14, 2013 Sarasota Bromeliad Society Meeting Monday January 14, 2013 Meeting was opened by President Terrie Bert. 30 members were in attendance. New member Steve Jacobs was introduced. Organizational events were discussed. The following are the officers for the 2013 year. President will be Terrie Bert. Our treasurer Royal Bruce has left, and Susan Stobo will replace him. Terrie gave a report that we have about $5000 in our checking account and about $7000 in a CD. No funds were amiss. Vice president will be Ray Lemieux, Secretary David Denholm. Chairmen for committees are needed for Advertising, Chairman for Library will be filled by Ray Lemieux and Shirley Evans. Workshops will be by Susanne Pouso and Shirley Evans. Hospitality will be Kathy Knuth. Raffle will be Mick Garza and John Osteen. Auction plant will be Terrie Bert. Door Prize will be Debbie Lemieux. Supplies will be continued by Ken Phelps. FCBS representative will be David Johnson, and he needs another designate. Show and tell was hosted by Terrie Bert, she showed her plants: Aechmea paniculata, Tillandsia flexuosa, Tillandsia meridionalis, Tillandsia Peanut (variant of ionatha), Tillandsia bulbosa, a large Aechmea orlandiana, Pitcairnia Flaming Arrow, Aechmea Red Flamingo, and others. Ray Lemieux showed Pitcarnia carnososepala with red blooms, Pitcairnia Flame Thrower, and Tillandsia duratii. Michael Beal showed a Cryptbergia in a basket, and David Denholm showed two Neoregelia Franco, and Aechmea Bert which was attached to a driftwood piece. Debbie Lemieux provided a wonderful spaghetti dinner which we all enjoyed, donations were accepted. Then the door prize plant was a Aechmea weilbachii donated by Terrie Bert and won by Traudi Wilson. The meeting was adjourned after the night’s plant auction.
