Ms. Heidi Pelto 810.225.5357 [email protected] A little background:

Mrs. Henson:

I am entering my twentieth year of teaching fifth grade…children of this age are challenging and a lot of fun to be around. I have yet to work a day without laughing! Your children will come to me for language arts and social studies. I live in Brighton with my husband, Bob, our daughter Jennifer, and with Kaylie, my precious granddaughter. Our other daughter, Missy, lives with her husband in Alma. We have two cats, and I must admit that we all dote upon them… In my spare time I love to read, work on scrap booking and homemade cards, a little stained glass work, beading, a little sewing, and lots of other miscellaneous crafts. I hope to pass along my passion for reading, especially, to our students so that they may also come to love reading if they haven’t yet discovered the “magic”. Fifth grade is the coolest grade of all!

Mrs. Pelto:

When my husband and I moved to Pinckney 23 years ago, we knew this would be a great place to raise our two sons (Nich and Noah). Nich moved to Ypsilanti this summer. Noah is a graduating senior from Pinckney High School, and plans to play football for Northwood University in the fall. My family shares a love of sports (even our dog, Cotton) – and we are huge Pirates fans. I love spending time learning about new technology in all its forms, but learning how to use a computer to do whatever I want it to is especially satisfying. Much of my summers are spent transferring our family photos and movies to DVDs. After getting my B.S. degree in criminal law, and working at the U of M for 17 years, I came to realize that I really wanted to be in the classroom. This will be my 9 th year of teaching fifth graders here at Navigator. I consider the move to be one of my best ideas ever! I will be teaching science and math. I’m eager to get the new year off to a great start and meet everyone!

The well-equipped student has: 1. a box of tissues to share 2. disinfecting wipes to share 3. hand sanitizer to share

4. good scissors 5. 10,001 pencils 6. hand-held sharpener 7. colored pencils 8. crayons 9. glue/glue sticks 10. (2) 2” binders 11. page protectors 12. binder divider pages 13. purple and green pens 14. fine line black marker 15. (2) highlighters 16. a sturdy pencil pouch 17. ruler 18. roll of Scotch tape 19. calculator – basic function 20. that’s all we can think of for now… 

Protect your supplies investment! Use permanent marker to put your child’s name on everything. All sixty kids will be bringing in similar things – who can decide ownership fairly if there is no name and two students claim the object?

Teacher Ease – Teacher Ease is a program by which teachers record assignments and grades into our computers. This site is accessible by you from home, which is a great way to be keeping an eye on your child regarding his/her assignments. Generally speaking, plan to visit the site when you want to know how your child is doing in class. A good routine would be to check TeacherEase every two weeks or so…assignments are recorded at least weekly, but usually not day by day. It may be that something will take a week before it shows up; if after that time an assignment is still recorded as missing, and you believe it was done, just e-mail us and we will check it out. We will contact you, if necessary, to resolve the issue. The main thing to keep an eye on is missing assignments, so that we can both monitor your child before he/she gets too far behind.
