OREGON DRESSAGE SOCIETY YOUTH SCHOLARSHIPS Jr/Young Rider Sponsored Memberships The ODS Board may sponsor a limited number of Jr/YR membership each year.
To be considered for an Oregon Dressage Society Sponsored Jr/Young Rider Membership please write a letter of application to the ODS Board of Directors which includes the following information:
Short-term Plans and Goals (1 year) - Activity in your Chapter Long-term Plans and Goals (beyond 1 year) - Competition history (you can provide copies of tests) Why you want and/or need a scholarship
The Oregon Dressage Society Board will consider your request and get back to you with a reply. Please be patient as sometimes it takes time for the members to be able to share information and communicate with all Board Members as they are in different locations of the State. In the mean time you are welcome to call the ODS Office for any questions.
1. Sponsored memberships will be awarded on the merit of the proposal. All applications will be evaluated on a year by year basis. Each application will be evaluated afresh without regard to prior awards. 2. There is no deadline for application consideration. Applications will be accepted throughout the year. 3. Sponsorship monies some from member donations, chapter donations and anonymous donations.
Winnie Heiney-Duncan Scholarship Fund Developed to honor & support long time and well respected ODS member Winnie Heiney-Duncan, this scholarship seeks to further develop the education of Jr/YR’s within the Society. ODS will award one scholarship per Membership year in the amount of $100.00 to a qualified Jr/YR. Scholarship fund may be applied to various equine related educational opportunities such as clinics, symposiums, lessons, competitions, and/or travel. Multiple person awards may be considered in situations of Jr/YR Team competition applications. Scholarships may be awarded by the Scholarship committee which will include Winnie Heiney-Duncan and 2 other Board Members.
Criteria & Application: 1) Must be a member of ODS 2) All application letters must be typed 3) Consideration to be given to need, and educational value. Preference will be given to those who commit/promise to add something back to the Society, through education to other junior/young riders or articles written in Flying Changes. 4) Scholarships will be awarded on the merit of the application 5) Applications must be submitted in advance of regularly scheduled Board meeting, by July 15th. Each winner will be decided at the August ODS Board meeting and the award presented at the ODS Annual Awards Banquet. 6) Each application will be evaluated afresh without regard to prior award. 7) All deliberation and applications of the committee will be absolutely confidential. All deliberations will be held in closed sessions.
This Scholarship strives to promote and encourage some of the values that Winnie personifies herself; values such as kindness, commitment, character, dedication, ethics, quality treatment of horses, education of humans and equines, and fairness.
