Text: Algebra 1 Welcome to another exciting school year! As you may have heard, awesome changes are taking place nationwide whereby most states have embraced the national "Common Core State Standards." The Common Core State Standards (CCSS) strive to prepare students for high school, college and a demanding global economy in ways we have never seen before. CMS is on the cutting edge of the CCSS initiative, having embraced this new set of standards well ahead of many other districts - and Community House is no exception.

Assessment CMS Grading Scale 65% Formal Assessment-Tests, Major Quizzes Projects 93-100 A 35% Informal Assessment- Classwork, Quizzes, Warm-ups, 85-92 B Participation Grade, and Homework 77-84 C 70-76 D Below a 70 F

Late Work Students will receive a 0 for any assignment that is not turned in. When late work is turned in and up to date, students will receive a 70 for that missing assignment. The teacher will let the student what assignments are missing once. It is the responsibility of the student to turn in any missed work in a timely manner.

Absence and Make-Up Work Upon returning to school following an absence, it is the student’s responsibility to see his/her teacher to request any missed work. Work must be received within the number of days as the child was absent. Any test/quiz that is missed will be given to the student upon his/her return to class and by making arrangements with the teacher. I encourage everyone to be in class on time and to remain in the class for the entire class period. Regular attendance equals success for every student. Missed class instruction is impossible to be made up and students lose out as a result of absences.

Homework Expectations You can expect your child to have thirty minutes of math homework each night. If homework consistently requires more than thirty minutes of your child’s time, please let me know. Daily homework assignments will be written in your child’s agenda. Weekly homework will be listed on my website; however, it is subject to change, so it is important to check your child’s agenda daily. I will keep the homework on the website throughout the quarter so that if your child is absent, he/she can look at the website and see what they missed.

Supplies/Materials Needed  3 subject spiral notebook (one for each semester) Each student is required to have a math notebook used for math class only.  Composition Notebook- kept in class for Warm-ups 3- #2 Pencils for every class (I do not lend supplies)  Graph Paper  Scotch Tape(personal roll to be kept with student)  All students need to have their Agenda with them in class at all times!  Calculator: You may use the one you had last year (TI 30X-IIS) or upgrade to the TI-84 graphing calculator. Agenda Expectations Your child is required to copy down the homework in his/her agenda in every class, every day! As teachers we will go by and initial, stamp or sign the agenda signifying that the HW is written correctly. Please make sure you, as parents, sign the agenda nightly letting us know you looked at it (sometimes there are notes or important pieces of information written to parents in the agenda) and your child did his/her HW. Students use these as hall passes also, so they need to be in class with them at all times. This is not a doodle pad-DO NOT DRAW OR RIP AGENDA
