CERTIFIED ANGUS BEEF PROGRAM NATIONAL JUNIOR ANGUS ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIPS Revised March 2002

The Certified Angus Beef, LLC (CAB) Program and the National Junior Angus Association (NJAA), are pleased to support youth, education and research in yet another way. A $1000 CAB/NJAA Scholarship will be awarded to a qualified applicant annually. The scholarship, first awarded in 1990, is a grant for which no equivalent work is required.

Procedures

Applications and recommendations should be returned, all in one packet, to the St. Joseph office no later than May 15, 2002. Upon receipt, the applications will be reviewed by a committee comprised of three CAB representatives and two NJAA representatives, and then if desired by the committee, an interview (either in person or via telephone) will be set up with the finalists. Winners will be selected so that they may be announced in July 2002.

A check will be awarded to the winner after he/she presents evidence of enrollment as a full-time student in accordance with guidelines. In the event that the winner fails to meet enrollment requirements by September 30, the award will be forfeited. Should the recipient fail to complete at least one semester of full-time enrollment in an approved field of study prior to June 30, 2003 for any reason, money awarded must be refunded to the scholarship committee. Scholarship recipients may continue to apply for the CAB/NJAA Scholarships as long as they meet requirements.

Qualifications

1. Applicants must have at one time been an NJAA member and must presently be a Junior, Regular, or Life member of the American Angus Association.

2. Each applicant must be an enrolling sophomore, junior or senior in a college/university for the fall term in which the scholarship is to be awarded. Scholarship funds are to be applied towards undergraduate studies. (i.e. Bachelor of Science degree)

3. The primary course work/declared major of applicants must be in animal science, meat science, food science, ag communications or a related field of study.

4. A copy of the applicant's most current high school or most current college transcripts must accompany the completed application form. 5. The completed application, high school or college transcripts and the three letters of recommendation must all be mailed in one packet for the application to be considered for the scholarship.

6. CAB/NJAA scholarship award winners will be eligible to reapply during subsequent award years. Instructions

In filling out the scholarship application:  The application should be typed.  Do not add extra pages.  Do not use the backs of pages for writing.  After completing the application bind the pages in a lightweight cover to protect them during mailing and handling.  Do not staple the pages.  Mail completed application, transcripts and letters of recommendation all in one packet to the address below.  To be considered for the scholarship the application packet must contain all the components consisting of the completed application, most current transcript, and three letters of evaluation (reference). At the end of the application you will find three evaluation forms with letters of explanation. Each applicant should have three personal references (employer, teacher, ag leader, pastor, etc.) complete these evaluations and return them to the applicant to be mailed with the completed application and transcripts to the American Angus Association in St. Joseph, Missouri. It is the applicant's responsibility to fill in his/her own name in the proper space on the letter of explanation and to provide the material to the reference source in sufficient time that it can be completed and returned to the applicant to be mailed as one complete packet before the application deadline. The references may use their own letterhead, but should provide all of the information requested on the enclosed form.

May 15 is the absolute deadline for mailing all applications, transcripts and evaluations (references). Materials mailed after this time may preclude an applicant from consideration. NOTE: With regard to this deadline, materials mailed must be postmarked by the U.S. Postal Service on or before May 15. Applications and evaluation forms should not be privately metered.
