Focus on the User

USER-FOCUSED NEEDS FINDING FOR A (TRULY) MOBILE FRAME Reframe (Will, Gustavo, Cory, Sarah) April 19, 2006

Define the User Groups for a Mobile Frame

Current  IDE Demonstrator  Multiple Well-Owning Farmer

Hypothetical (should we consider these possible users or focus on the known customers above?)  Entrepreneur Who Rents Pump Out to Others (new business model?)  Farmers Who Want to Share a Pump w/ Other Farmers?  Farmers Who Want to Guard Against Theft (store pump indoors?)  Other?

______

Questions for Users Note: Ideally, it would be great to get responses from the following types of users: two or three people who bought a pump but NOT a frame, two or three people who bought both a pump AND a frame, a demonstrator, and a dealer.

What does PORTABLE really mean?  If the frame were easier to fold up, how far would you need to carry the pump and frame between wells (or, for a demonstrator, between villages?)  How often would you need to move the frame and pump around?  How will you carry the pump frame? (by hand? in a cart? on a bike? other?)

Decisions about the Purchase of a Frame (when shown the current frame):  What do you think about the price of the frame?  Do you think this frame is a good value? Will it be helpful?  Do you think that buying this frame will affect how well the pump works? What if you build a frame on your own?  How long do you expect a frame to last if you buy it from IDE? What about if you make one on your own?  If you buy (bought) this frame and it breaks, how would you get it repaired?  Does this frame look safe? Comfortable to use?  If you bought a frame, how would you get it home?  Do you know anyone else who bought this frame? Do they like it?  Are you concerned about your pump being stolen? If so, what have you done to prevent that?  If you make your own frame instead of buying one, what materials will you use?
