Information to focus on: Fertile Crescent: - large arc of fertile farmland - people wanted to reside there because of the rich soil Mesopotamia = “the land between the rivers” – the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers Writing – began with pictures, recorded on tablets, & was first used to keep business records Hammurabi’s Code – first written list of laws Hammurabi & Nebuchadnezzar – built up Babylon Some Phoenician Achievements: alphabet, found city of Carthage, and sailed ships for trade in the Mediterranean
