POSITION: Director of Special Education

REPORTS TO: Superintendent

SUPERVISES: Staff Members assigned to the Department of Special Education

QUALIFICATIONS: Michigan full approval as Director of Special Education Minimum of five years experience as an administrator of special education Demonstrated ability in the organization and supervision of special education programs Master’s degree or higher in educational administration or related field

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Administrative 260 day position Full-time position Start Date: July 1, 2014

JOB GOALS: To provide leadership in developing, achieving and maintaining a quality special education program on behalf of the constituent districts within LCISD

SPECIFIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Supervises all department staff and facilities; 2. Provides instructional vision, leadership, and programming for all staff to utilize best practices and pedagogy for students with disabilities; 3. Keeps informed of all legal requirements governing Special Education and shares this information with LCISD and all local education agencies (LEA's); 4. Provides leadership for the implementation of Special Education curriculum and programming; 5. Collaborates with local administrators on the evaluation and supervision of local Special Education programs, services, and staff; 6. Collaborates with the Finance Department regarding grant designations and allocations including program design and implementation; 7. Develops and manages the Special Education budget in accordance with board policy and administrative guidelines; 8. Monitors operation of district programs and services for students with disabilities to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal guidelines; 9. Works collaboratively with community agencies to implement programs and supports for individuals with disabilities; 1. Represents the agency in public matters related to the education of students with disabilities; 2. Completes local, state, and federal reports related to Special Education; 3. Supervises the development and implementation of Emergency Crisis Plans and other activities related to building safety and security; 4. Serves in special administrative assignments in the district as designated by the Superintendent.
