He started a Kickstarter project in 2012 to get the necessary funds which was very successful by raising $20,000 after only 30 days. By combining his two passions, music and design, he created the Berlin Boombox. He wanted to make a mobile speaker that stands out between the legions of black plastic boxes with rounded edges… something you want to show off, like back in the days. The minimalist graphic art in black and white makes the Berlin Boombox a guaranteed head-turner. In September 2012 the first black and white model of the Berlin Boombox was launched. Since then, we have been continuously developing new colorways and designs. Today the Berlin Boombox is available at retailers on all continents - find a store near you with our Store Finder. Where can I purchase the Berlin Boombox? Available online on http://www.berlinboombox.com and at world-wide retailers. (all infos online) Retail price: 65 Euros (about $86 at current rates).

What do I get? The Berlin Boombox comes as a flat packed kit (meaning less energy used for shipping) consisting of a die-cut fully recyclable cardboard structure and electronic parts. It will only take you a couple minutes to assemble it yourself! You won’t need any tools or glue and the construction manual guides you step-by-step. All design, screen-printing, cardboard production and packaging is done locally in Berlin. Now hook it up to your phone or MP3, turn it up and start the party!

Technical specifications & sound: The Berlin Boombox is an excellent-quality build. It features heavy corrugate cardboard with screen- printed graphics, a strong carrying handle and a single big aluminum knob for power and volume. “How good can a cardboard sound system actually sound?” people wonder. “You’ll be amazed” says Axel Pfaender. The powerful 2x5 watt amplifier and speakers have been custom tailored by audio equipment manufacturer Mivoc from Solingen, Germany, especially for the Berlin Boombox. The 3.5 mm stereo jack ensures that a wide range of devices can be used such as iPhones, other smartphones (Galaxy S4, Xperia Lumia…) and PC, Mac or tablets as well with the extension cable available. For an even better sound, Bongiovi Acoustics from Florida have included a Berlin Boombox Hifi audio profile into their iPhone app Bongiovi DPS available on the iTunes Store.
