OPTIMUM TIME CLASSES: The judge will measure the ideal route for the course. Based on an appropriate rate of speed, the Time Allowed to complete the course will be determined. The rider who comes closest to this time is the winner. The optimal time will be posted on the course map. The Time Allowed may be adjusted at the sole discretion of the Judge(s), if they feel it is inaccurate, but only after consultation with the course designer. However, the time allowed may only be adjusted once during the early rounds of a given competition, never later than after the third competitor to complete the course without a disobedience. Time Allowed: Based on appropriate speeds for each level. Ground Poles: 200 meters per minute (medium trot) 18”– 2’ Jumper: 250 meters per minute (fast trot) 2’3” – 3’9” Jumper: 350 meters per minute (medium canter) Optimal Time: Four (4) seconds less than the Time Allowed. Time Limit: Double the Time Allowed.
JUMP OFF CLASSES: Riders will complete the first part of the course (may be the same or different course as the Optimum Time classes). If clear (no refusals or rails knocked down), the judge will blow a whistle. The whistle indicates that the rider may now proceed to the special Jump Off course. Jump-offs are held over obstacles from the original course that may include obstacles not included in the initial round. In a jump-off, any sequence of obstacles in either direction may be employed. There will usually be several options or routes for completing the course. The routes will either be very tight without much time/space before each jump, or extremely long, taking a lot of time but giving the horse a better chance to set up for the jump, you choose the route that will give your horse the best advantage. The rider with the quickest time for a clear round over the Jump Off course is the winner.
GAMBLER’S CHOICE: Every jump will be assigned a value based on height and complexity. They should all be made to jump safely from either direction. The rider will have 45 seconds from the moment of lift-off at their first jump. The goal is to get as many points as possible in your 45 seconds. If your horse has begun a jump (forelegs off the ground) when the whistle blows, the jump will count towards your score. Any jumps that are refused or have rails knocked down will not count. Jumping a jump that has already been knocked down will not count. After your 45 seconds are complete, you will have the option to jump one of the two Jokers. These are at max height and are visually challenging. The Joker is worth 200 points and only counts if it is made on the first attempt.
FAULTS: Two disobediences, such as refusals, run-outs, circling (except when resuming the course after a refusal or run- out) allowed, on the third disobedience you will be eliminated and excused from the ring. You may ask permission from the judge to take one courtesy jump for schooling purposes before exiting the arena. Knockdown: 4 faults First and Second Disobediences: 4 faults Third Disobedience: Eliminated Exceeding Time Allowed: 1 fault for every second over Time Allowed (Optimum Time classes only)
MULTIPLE ENTRIES IN A CLASS: You may enter and ride more than once in a class, but you must declare to the judge before your first ride which round will be scored. If no declaration is made, your last round will be scored.
**LEADLINE CLASS (LL): $2 entry fee, participation ribbons only. For young or green riders; as a group the class will be led over the ground pole course. Lead line need not be attached, on-course coaching allowed.
