JOB TITLE: Director of Development and Public Relations DEPARTMENT: Administration SUPERVISOR: President

LOCATION: Greensboro/High Point

I. GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The Director of Development and Public Relations is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining programs related to the annual appeal, planned giving, and capital campaigns. This position is responsible for direction and oversight of all publications, serves as media spokesperson, and develops the budget for all fund raising and public relations activities. The Director of Development and Public Relations assists staff and provides the leadership and policy guidance for The Presbyterian Homes Foundation, Inc.

II. DUTIES

The Director of Development and Public Relations key job duties are as follows:

Planning and implementing the continued growth of the annual appeal program to benefit Presbyterian Homes’ communities.

In consultation with the Executive Directors of the communities, implements and maintains a planned giving program to benefit The Presbyterian Homes, Inc. and its communities.

Consults with the President of The Presbyterian Homes, Inc.; The Presbyterian Homes, Inc. Board of Governors; the Boards of Trustees of the communities; the Board of Directors of The Presbyterian Homes Foundation, Inc.; and the communities’ Executive Directors in the organization and execution of capital campaigns.

Planning and implementing the Mother’s Day/Father’s Day offering.

Responsible for and works in consultation with the President of The Presbyterian Homes, Inc. in preparing the Annual Report.

Working with the President and the Executive Directors, responsible for producing each community’s Letter from the Executive Director.

Produces gift announcements to publicize major bequests and other major planned gifts received by The Presbyterian Homes Foundation, Inc. for the benefit of the communities.

Revised: February 2014 Job Description Director of Development Coordinates and supervises the collateral materials for fund raising efforts to benefit The Presbyterian Homes, Inc. and its communities in the areas of the annual appeal, planned giving, and capital campaigns.

Writes grant applications to foundations to seek funding to benefit The Presbyterian Homes, Inc. and its communities.

Develops and maintains a system of record keeping for donors as well as prospect identification and recognition for donors.

Coordinates the scheduling and distribution of the Visions planned giving publication to The Presbyterian Homes, Inc. residents.

Works with The Presbyterian Homes, Inc. Board of Governors; the communities’ Boards of Trustees; the Board of Directors of The Presbyterian Homes Foundation, Inc.; and other volunteer organizations in the development program of The Presbyterian Homes, Inc.

Produces press releases, serves as a media spokesperson, and maintains a positive image of the organization with all media.

Provides editorial direction, encouragement, oversight, and final approval of all publications and printed materials.

Organizes and executes donor recognition events.

Works with the President to establish budgets and manage the budgeting process for all fund raising and public relations activities.

III. SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

 Bachelor’s degree

 Previous development experience, preferably in the planned giving and capital campaign areas

 Ability to work independently and with others

 Organizational and communication skills

 Public relations experience
