Please use the numbered index to locate trails within the region as well as to gather detailed trail information. 6 7 ZIM SMITH TRAIL & MOHAWK-HUDSON BIKE-HIKE TRAIL - SCHENECTADY COUNTY 5 SARATOGA SPRINGS TRAILS BALLSTON VETERANS TRAIL 3 RENSSELAER LAKE TRAIL Three and a half miles of paved level trail built upon the old Schenectady- The Mohawk-Hudson Bike-Hike Trail is the region's most continuous bicycle and pedestrian facility. Most of the trail is paved and off-road; built upon former railroad grades and canal towpaths. Saratoga trolley line adjacent to current railroad tracks in the Town of Ballston PARADE GROUND TRAIL 4 PAPSCANEE ISLAND The Zim Smith Trail is currently paved for about 4 miles in the Town of Malta and the Portions of the trail travel on local streets. The Schenectady County portion of the trail stretches across the entire county generally following the . Including both on and off-road Approximately one mile of paved trail located in the City of Albany traversing the Rensselaer Lake Preserve and Park and the Albany The City of Saratoga Springs in Saratoga County contains two major trails as well as a signed on-road bicycle and pedestrian network. Railroad Run is a dual in Saratoga County. For complete information contact the Town of Ballston at Village of Round Lake in Saratoga County. Plans are in place to pave an additional Pine Bush Preserve. The trail is level and accessible. Contact the Preserve Commission at (518) 456-0655 for asphalt/stone dust trail built on an old railroad bed. The half mile long trail is located between Congress Avenue and West Circular Street. Trail parking is sections, the facility provides over 20 miles of trail. For more information on the Schenectady County portion of the trail contact the Schenectady County Planning Department at (518) 386-2225. (518) 885-8502. 2 miles in the Town of Ballston and almost 3 miles in the Towns of Clifton Park and more information. NATURE PRESERVE available in the Elm Street/Empire Street area. Please be careful not to tresspass on nearby private property. An extension of the Railroad Run Trail is Halfmoon. For more information contact the Saratoga County Planning Department planned for 2006. The extension will connect the existing portion to the Saratoga Spa State Park. The Bog Meadow Nature Trail is a two mile trail and Town of Ballston n to ROTTERDAM - NISKAYUNA Managed by the Rensselaer County Environmental Management Council and s k at (518) 884-4705. 1 Recreation Area ll e boardwalk system between Meadow Brook Road and Lake Avenue. The trail passes through three distinct wetland areas identified by interpretive signage. a e owned by the Open Space Institute, Papscanee IslandU Nature Preserve is r Cook Park B C The Parade Ground Trail in the Town of Malta consits of 1.5 miles of paved trail, The current western terminus of the trail in Schenectady County is in the Town of Rotterdam. A connection from this point west to the existing Canalway trail N N Additionally there is a public nature trail at the Saratoga National Golf Club. With a viewing area of Lake Lonely at the southern end; this trail is an easy half D located just south of the City of Rensselaer in the Towns of East Greenbush K R partially alongside the Malta Community Park. The park contains one of the area's in Montgomery County is expected to be completed in 2006. Within the Town of Rotterdam the trail is primarily off-road with the exception of a short on-road P N mile walk through a forested area. The trail is open year round and is accessible from Route 9P Union Avenue. Designated parking for the trail is available at P and Schodack in Rensselaer County. There are 2.5 miles of level hiking trails A C O L O N I E O T RD best nature trails. Bicycles are not allowed on the nature trail. For more information portion along State Route 5S from Woestina Street to Scrafford Lane. Currently the connection from Scrafford Lane to the off-road trail is not accessible due R the access point.
