New Asia College, CUHK / Yale University Summer Community Service Exchange, 2017 * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * 1. Objectives

i. To bring together students from different regions for a cultural exchange that occurs through working closely on a community service project. ii. To enhance students’ knowledge of the social issues and approaches to community services in both Hong Kong and the United States. iii. To strengthen the academic ties between the two institutions.

2. Format of Exchange

New Asia College, The Chinese University of Hong Kong has been organizing a Summer Community Service Exchange Programme with the Yale University since 2003. Under this programme, New Asia students visit Yale University in the summer and serve with their Yale counterparts as interns at a non-profit organization for a period of four weeks. After the internship in Yale, both New Asia and Yale students travel to Hong Kong in late June for 4-week internship in an organization of similar nature. The objective of this Summer Community Service Exchange Programme is to bring together students from different regions for a cultural exchange through working closely on a community service project.

3. Period of Exchange

New Asia students will spend 4 weeks in June living and working with their Yale counterparts in New Haven, the US. After the internship in the US, all students will travel to Hong Kong for another 4-week internship. Based on the internship experience, each intern is required to prepare a final report on his/her findings and submit it to both New Asia College and Yale-China Association.

4. Selection of Candidates

i. All New Asia full-time undergraduates (except final year and exchange students) ii. Good academic performance iii. Good command of English iv. Active participation in community services v. Knowledge and interest in community services

5. Quota

Three students from New Asia College.

6. Expenses Both New Asia College and Yale-China Association will provide housing for the students. The College is to subsidize the air passage, travel insurance and a stipend for meal/transportation/miscellaneous expenses (stipend for the US segment is to be provided by Yale-China Association). Students are to bear their personal expense in U.S./Hong Kong.

7. Application

Interested students can obtain details and submit online applications at the College website (http://www.na.cuhk.edu.hk) not later than February 16, 2017. Short-listed candidates are required to attend a selection interview in March/April. List of selected students will be announced in mid April.
