8th Grade Recipes Soft Pretzels
1 c. warm water 2 tbsp. soft butter 1 pkg Yeast ½ egg (2tbsp. egg mixture) ¼ c. Sugar 2 c. Flour 1 tsp. Salt 1 ¼ - 1 ¾ Cups of Flour
Directions: 1. Measure water and place in large bowl, microwave for 50 seconds till lukewarm. 2. Sprinkle in yeast, add a pinch of the sugar, stir until dissolved 3. Add sugar 4. Add salt 5. Add softened butter 6. Add egg mixture 7. Add 2 cups of flour, beat until smooth use a wooden spoon 8. Add ¼ cup of flour at a time until you use between 1 ¼ - 1 ¾ . Stir after each ¼ cup and mixture should stop sticking to the spoon when you have added enough 9. Sprinkle counter with a small amount of flour( just a dusting of flour) 10. Knead dough for 2 to 3 minutes for each student 11. Spray dough with Pam and place in a zip lock bag. Mark bag with kitchen number and class period.
Day 2: Soft Pretzel
1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees 2. Grease baking pan with Pam 3. Remove dough from plastic bag. Cut dough into 12 pieces on the cutting board. 4. Roll each piece of dough into pencil shape about 20 inches long. Shape into pretzels. Place on greased baking sheet, 5. Brush top of pretzels with egg mixture, given to each kitchen by teacher 6. Sprinkle with salt or cinnamon sugar 7. Bake for 15 to 18 minutes on top shelf, allow to cool before eating
FRUIT PIZZA
Ingredients: ½ cup butter, softened (1 stick) ¾ cup sugar (1/4 cup + 1/2 cup) 1 egg 1 ¼ cup flour (1 cup + 1/4 cup) 1 teaspoon cream of tartar ½ teaspoon baking soda ¼ teaspoon salt
Directions: Day 1 1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. 2. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the butter and the 3/4 cup sugar, using an electric mixer. 3. Add the egg, beat with the electric mixer. 4. In a separate mixing bowl, mix the flour, cream of tartar, baking soda, and salt with a fork. 5. Add the dry ingredients into the creamed mixture. 6. Using a wooden spoon, combine the ingredients until just blended. (DO NOT over mix the dough or it will stick to your hands). 7. Press the dough onto greased pizza pan using your hands or a rubber spatula. 8. Bake in preheated oven for 10 to 12 minutes, or until slightly browned. 9. Use a toothpick to check for doneness. 10. Cool on a cooling rack.
Day 2 Ingredients: ½ (4 oz.) package of cream cheese 1/4 cup sugar 1 teaspoon vanilla extract Variety of fruit
Directions: 1. In a large mixing bowl, beat cream cheese, sugar and vanilla with an electric mixer until well blended. 2. Spread the mixture on the cooled crust with rubber spatula 3. Wash fruit, if necessary. 4. Cut fruit on a cutting board, if necessary. 5. Arrange desired fruit on top of filling and enjoy!
